Simple questions... how do you store your watches at home? I like to display them, but obviously, this is not the safest way to go... So I end up hiding them somewhere... Actually I don't like the latter because I can't enjoy looking at them. What do you do? display? safe? something else?
Since this is a public forum, I'm going to say that I store them in a massive safe bolted to the concrete floor.
I keep mine in a hermetically sealed mayonnaise jar placed on Funk and Wagnall's porch....wait, that was Carnak the Magnificent. Sorry. I keep my watches in a combination watch box/winder on my dresser.
Silently taking notes... I also keep them out to enjoy, but be advised I AM capable should something happen... "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom I can tell you I don't have money, but what I do have are a very particular set of skills. Skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my watches go now that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you, but if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you." So there's that, which is nice.
Actually my point.... I want to look at my watches! Only a 3 piece collection but still... I hate the idea of the necessity of a safe in MY OWN house! How can I enjoy my watches if they are behind a steel door looking for a good balance between visibility and safety...
Print out fractional pictures of your dials and tape them here and there. Place picture on exercise bike book rest. See them everyday.
I don't like dogs... And in Europe we don't have guns in our houses. Maybe a cheap 'decoy' watch in an obvious place is the way to go
