All of my computers phones show a different time. Not having an atomic radio sync watch, I do not know how to get the correct time. I believe any of the "actual time" clocks readily available on the internet may not be accurate. The time they show likely has been altered by the time the signal goes from their server thru my internet service and WiFi to my computer. What do you all use when you want the "real time?" Thanks.
Your phone -assuming it’s a smartphone with a gps- is very likely the most accurate time reference you have. Alternatively you can use http://time.is, which will also tell how far your phone/computer is from the reference time (mine just now was -0.008s, which I believe is at least two orders of magnitude away from being a relevant deviation). This website takes precautions to show the most accurate time possible and reduce the impact of latency, see here for some details: https://time.is/about.
If not using my iPhone or iPad, I’ll use either the online USNO clock [Google “USNO Master Clock” and click on “Animated Master Time”] or my trusty 20 year old RadioShack alarm clock that is linked to some gizmo somewhere...heck, they’re both probably wrong...but at least they match up...
And for the record...do NOT...I repeat...do NOT utilize your friendly neighborhood airliner ACARS clock [yellow/green box screen pictured below] regarding obtaining the correct time...I’ve seen them vary from multiple matched up smart phone clocks by 15 to 30 seconds. Of course, who really knows what’s really correct...heck, I don’t know!
And if you want to go down a rabbit hole see this site http://www.exactlywhatistime.com/definition-of-time/ I warn you however, if you follow all the linked pages on the right, especially the Physics of Time, at some point, your brain may melt
Find this easy to use. Like the day length, sunrise, sunset and solar time feature on the same page once you set your default https://time.is/
Holy smokes...no kidding! Did you see this section? Pictured below...see pointer. Holy smokes...again!
It's easy I set for what the clock at work says If you can get fired for being late the proper time is the work clock
When my watches are brand new I set them to the Internet atomic time clock app just to check their accuracy. Once I know that they’re running properly I really don’t care if they’re calibrated to the second. Nothing in my life matters if my watch is a minute off.
I drive into South East London, UK. I then go for a nice walk in Greenwich Park and stand with my legs apart over the '0' degrees line. I try to position the accuracy of my 'straddled stance' so that one of my 'bollocks' is either side of the Greenwich Meridian. Using my nose as a sundial, I read the time off of the shadow on ground and then adjust 'Old Speedy' to the correct time. Adjust your watch to GBT.... 'GREENWHICH BOLLOCK TIME'!...... You can't get better than that! (I've produced a helpful visual aid to guide you through this delicate process so you don't 'make a bollocks' of it and adjust your 'old Speedy' to the wrong 'fakkin' time. I hope this is helpful Forum.) It's precisely 2am here in the UK!.... I'm going to 'fakk off' to bed now @oddboy.
Use a computer with a good internet connection and where NTP is running correctly and checking against multiple hosts.
Every month or two, I'll use the USNO clock or GPS time in the jet to check my X-33, then I set all my other watches off it. It's that accurate.
I can never find a way of displaying the seconds with any feature of my Samsung S5 phone's clock. Just tried using time.is but it will only show running time for 4 seconds before freezing. First time it said my phone was 5.9 seconds off then a few minutes later 0.094.* Any tips on keeping the time.is site running? * Edit: phone is steady 5.9 seconds fast. The other reading is accuracy of synchronisation. Whoops
Have the cheapest Samsung you can buy as I break and flood a few phones a year, and no issue keeping Time,is running. You can download the app which might work better.....
