I would be most grateful if someone could tell me the best way to fit a compression fit pusher to a Speedmaster case, ideally without buying an expensive tool! Thanks.

That's an easy question to answer: you take it to a watchmaker. If you don't know how to do it, stop messing with it. ::facepalm2::

@STANDY - where's that thread you always link to on this subject?

Shout out to photo500 was made so I didn't step in...but it seems he is AWOL, so...

They are press fitted, so you press them in. I use the tool that oddboy posted a link to personally...don't forget the Loctite 638...

Or just take it to someone who knows how to do this and has the proper tools. It's not exactly complicated to do, but if you had to ask...

    Cheers, Al

Thank you Al, I apreciate your time.
I do understand how it is fitted and am not completely devoid of skill or common sense, really I was hoping there was a clever method without buying an expensive tool. I would take it to a competent watchmaker if there were one local to me but as there isn't one I would need to post it to STS or similar which just seemed a little over the top for a pusher that just needs to be, well, pushed in. It's only a matter of applying the right force - enough but not too much. Does the pusher come apart first?
Oh well I'll stick in in the vice. That was a joke btw!
    Thank you to all.

    Hi Ash,

If you are asking how to press them in properly, then using the tool is the way. You can possibly jury rig some other way of inserting them I'm sure, but if you are asking for my experience doing that....well again I use the tool, so I have no experience trying to do it by other means. I won't suggest trying another method because there can be unintended consequences if this is done incorrectly, up to deforming the case frame, which I'm sure you can appreciate is not a good thing. The tool in question is designed as it is for a reason.

Keep in mind I get asked questions by all kinds of people daily, from other professional watchmakers, serious hobbyists, down to people who know next to nothing about watches. I don't know what your skill level is. I have no idea where you are located and if there are watchmakers near by, so I gave the best advice I can give with the information you have provided, which is not much to be honest. There are many watches with the name "Speedmaster" so I don't know what case reference you are dealing with, or what the case construction is, etc.

Generally speaking I don't disassemble the press in style pushers. Omega tends to use Loctite on the threads of the cap and screw, so trying to undo that without applying heat (which can damage gaskets) will often result in a broken off screw inside the cap.

    Cheers, Al

Okay I was waiting for a second pusher to come in as it's backordered, but decided to fit the one I have so you can see the process. The tool is used for removing old pushers as well as fitting new ones, so insert the right sized die, and press the old pushers out from the inside:

Clean out the holes in the case thoroughly., apply Loctite 638 to pusher body and the hole, and then get the new pusher started:

Use opposite side of the pusher tool to press the pusher into the case - ensure it's fully seated:

    Let cure before final assembly:

thanks Al! that answers several questions I had (though I'll still take my watches to a proper WM).
