How difficult is it to get the Apollo 8 DSOTM

Can someone give me an update on the availability status of the DSOTM? How easy or difficult is it to find. Let one go, and now feeling mighty remorseful.

Thanks!

As discussed in your other thread on this topic, it’s not a super hot collectible piece that’s hard to get. I see about 65 of them currently for sale at Chrono24. Here on OF, one of our regular forum sellers has one (or at least did fairly recently).

If you want one, you should be able to have it in your hands by Friday or Saturday, I’d think.

I like the watch, but not sure I would want the Atlas hand.... looks a bit gimmicky.

That is nice. do you know if it has a lunar meteorite or, I guess, regular meteorites? I was watching a show on minerals (great courses) and the professor discussed the different meteorites. It was quite interesting.

The dial is not meteorite, but I'm not sure what is made of. I think it might be ceramic, like the case. I used to own one, but still don't know. I did a brief look around the internet but most reviews just describe the laser that formed the dial surface.

The Apollo-soyuz 35th anniversary has the meteorite dial, which you might already have seen. That's a spectacular dial, imho.

You're not alone in not liking the Atlas rocket. We might get used to it in time. People say it's very well made. Probably better in person, which is often the case with watches.

The Apollo 8 is one of the most unique Speedys. I really liked the first iteration. The main issue I had with it was the ceramic case. It was so light and the edges so sharp, I couldn't get comfortable with it. Ironically, it felt fragile to me, even though it's very durable (just don't drop it.)

It's a little surprising to me that this watch didn't get more love. I think people want to like it, but have mixed feelings. If it had been 42mm in steel I might have kept it. But I am notoriously capricious about my watches.

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts after seeing one in person, whether you like it more or less.

I saw the DSOM with the Atlas rocket today in Tyson's corner. The rocket was smaller than I thought it would be. Was not a deal breaker. It was a nice watch, but a bit dark.

I did end up buying the white dial moon watch with a black leather strap. I did pay full price and sales tax (haha)... but they did throw in the white leather speed master strap ($230 was the one I bought), so I think that is a deal. Although all they did was give me a emblem paper bag to hold it. For the black leather strap purchased through mail order, they sent a fancy case that had room for the lug tool. So that was a bit disappointing. Now I have a black and a white leather strap that I can change on my speedies.

She also said she would contact me if she got a snoopy in. The only thing there is, do I want to part with 11,200 + tax.... coughing up that much dough will choke me... I already have a touch of buyers remorse as concerns price as 15k would go a long way towards, well, a whole house generator... Oh well, it's said and done.

Congrats. Wear the white speedy. You've got time. You might not want another watch. Plus, adding straps is like getting new watches. If you still have the Snoopy itch, you'll be ready. Just don't buy a watch because it seems like a good deal.

Wear the Speedy to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Center. Lucky you!
