Hi, I've got a new strap coming for my DSOM Speedmaster, and I would like to know how difficult they are to change? Should I take it to a dealer bearing in mind that I've got to remove the titanium deployment clasp too?
If you are a regular DIYer and have a little patience to learn it is incredibly easy. However if you are too nervous about damaging the watch it doesn't hurt to ask a professional to do it for you(might just cost a few bucks)
Handy thing with the dark side is as long as you're not banging it hard enough to crack it, the springbar tool shouldn't damage the surface like it might in a normal steel case.
...and many suggest covering the lugs to protect from scratching - I have successfully used electrical tape. Good luck and pictures please!
I'm am a part qualified electrical technician so I know a bit about small repairs. But this one scares me. It's probably simple, but I don't want to damage my new watch. I've got nothing to practise on.
Will I need a special sized Spring Bar Tool? I've just seen this guide which is quite good. http://www.watchworx.co.uk/pages/access/tools.html
I use the cheap $1 ones from china found on ebay. Sometimes if Im in a bind a credit card would do too lol. Tape up your lugs as others have mentioned. A scratch on the DSOM seems like it would be more noticeable than a stainless cased watch.
The 1.25mm-ish size is what you'll want but its not like size specific, all the end needs to do it be able to grab the collar of the bar and push it inwards without slipping left and right, a sharp flathead screwdriver with a nick in the middle of the blade would achieve much the same thing.
Can I use the Spring Bars from the stap that I remove, or will I need to use new ones. I've seen this kit, it comes with a selection of bars. http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/watch-spring-bar-tool-set-a39uq?cmpid=ppc&gclid=CP-Fgrzz0dECFTgo0wodI9gPrQ
Bars that you have on the watch would be best. For removing them I use either an x-acto knife, pocket knife, steak knife, bent piece of wire, paper clip or a cheap spring bar tool. Usually just what ever is closest.

These work great and well worth the money. I also bought a pair of tweezers that are nice to have when removing and installing a bracelet. They generally don't work so well with leather/rubber straps because it's harder to get access to the springbar shoulders. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bergeon-782...%3Ac0aa9b061590a5e0b88c6b79ffabc287%7Ciid%3A1Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
