How are you avoiding the holiday?

As those of us in the US join with family and friends to honor a special day that celebrates the spirit of giving thanks (and displacing indigenous peoples- there, I said it), many of us will find ways to avoid those family and friends after our social meter hits 11.

I have decided today is a great day to tear down and service my Otari MX5050 tape deck since it’s been a while since the last service, the pinch roller assembly is sluggish and “let’s hear your stereo” is always a request.

What are you doing today to avoid everyone?

I'm avoiding by having it 6 weeks ago or so...never understood why you guys have this and Xmas so close together.

I wish, but we are hosting this year. The preparations have started a week ago and I have been great at keeping up with my to-do list that gets updated momentarily by my lovely wife. I will start sipping on my bourbon soon and pretend like I enjoy hosting people.

edit: just started

Don’t avoid it, just add scotch
And if you don't want to advertise it, this "at work" hack also works for family gatherings...

Avoiding Thanksgiving for us north of the 49th is simple! We celebrated Thanksgiving on Oct. 14th. So today, I work. Provided FedEx gets her with my watch material order. We have a postal strike in effect right now. But to those of you to the south, happy Thanksgiving!

I do nothing special, just go about as I normally do. I've been home for Thanksgiving once in about 25 years, maybe a few get togethers with friends in that time. Not really anything since I got out of the Navy. It's just a day of the week.

I got an early wake up call to help disperse a surprise donation of 150 Turkeys. It wasn’t all altruistic I got paid but it was a surprise as our usually source had to cancel due to inflation. So we had to rush them to shelters and soup kitchens as everyone was going crazy with the surprise last minute save. Now I can just say my side is acting up (which it is plus I think my hands got frost bitten I was Ill prepared as well) spend the rest of the day in hiding from humanity, i actually don’t want to see another Turkey for a while.

This reminded me of that wonderful scene in WKRP in Cincinnati where they delivered turkeys by helicopter. That’s all, nothing useful for me to contribute today.

It would be a lot easier dropping them off a Blackhawk as we flew around

I didn't have to do anything today to get out of Tgiving festivities -- my wife and son are in London until Sunday. Well, I did have to entertain my mom for a couple hours in the morning, as she drove up for visit and to see our new cats. The only heavy lifting I had to do for the visit was to cut up and cook some breakfast sausage. Spent from noon - 5 pm doing very little, and enjoying the heck out of it.

Maybe, if you’re good, we’ll do that for your birthday

Thanksgiving fell on our wedding anniversary this year so we went to the RC HMB instead.

Had an open house for local friends that don’t have a place to be, so we could avoid family time.

Win win.

Foo girl cooks from different countries each year and it was German this year. Local mustard reserves have been severely depleted.

Volunteer work in a kitchen.
I got to meet one of my favorite people yesterday. He is in his 90’s but opens a soup kitchen everyday. I volunteered with him a couple times. He retired from the gov. Sadly his wife passed he was just looking for something to do started the soup kitchen gig 25 years later he’s still doing it. Really cool dude.

Ahhh, the countries with monochromatic meals. England always takes the win though.

Chilling out with the cat. No other family, and friends know better than to try to get me to do something with them.
