I was 3 at the time and only vividly remember the first " car on the Moon " but Apollo 8 was a worldwide positive event in an otherwise troubled year.

, as Apollo 8 was rescheduled as the first mission to orbit the Moon, Omega watches Bienne brought out a hard cardboard mission analyser so spaceflight fans could follow each stage of this historic mission, from launch to circum-lunar orbit and back to Earth. On Christmas afternoon, the crew made their fifth television broadcast and confirmed the Moon was grey like plaster or a sort of grayish beach sand.
