    To be offbeat.

Bow or neck ties...Interesting, gorgeous, tacky, whatever.

To start, here is my little ca. 1990s Missoni collection. The second from the bottom was from Barney's in Chicago, a gift from my stepmom about 25 years ago. The others I got off the 'bay a couple of years ago (they were much cheaper...).

    Sorry. '90s flashback.
The only time I wear a tie now is for funerals and interviews.

I don't wear a tie everyday to work, but maybe a couple days a week. I sort of got out of the habit a few years ago. Also occasionally bow ties. Being a doc, I sort of feel compelled to at least a little. But I don't see patients. ;)

Being in IT / engineering it's a bit easier for me to never wear a tie but here in Australia with the heat and humidity even in a business setting top button is usually left undone.

My dad though loves collecting ties from obscure clubs like overseas yacht clubs, polo clubs, auto racing clubs etc and has the most enormous collection yet wears the same boring 2-3 because he doesn't want to get his good ones damaged or stained, go figure :)

I collect bow ties, and these are the only ties I wear. Last ones I bought were in Chianciano,
Italy. Beautiful, hand made, silk, made in Italy. €22.00 each. Couldn't touch them where I live for $100.00.

Years ago I went to my boss and admitted to some nervousness about an upcoming presentation. He said to me, "Young man, when I was in high school I was asked to do an impromptu talk on ties. I went up to the podium and waxed poetic about bow ties, neck ties, railroad ties, ties in sporting events and the ties that bind. Just go up there and do your best." And so I did.

    4 centuries bow/neck tie:
The bow tie originated among Croatian mercenaries during the Prussian war of the 17th century... Hvala lijepa

I have a few collecting dust in a closet somewhere...wear them for weddings and funerals - more of the latter these days...
