    Hello All,

New to this forum so apologies if this has already been covered. I inherited a Seamaster De Ville from about 1967 from my grandfather. I had the watch refurbished by Omega about 6 years ago. Now, after keeping good time for about 4 hours, the minute and hour hands cease moving, but the second hand keeps going. I wonder if anybody on here knows what the problem might be and how much it should cost to fix it.
I have been told by an Omega service centre here in London that their minimum service charge is £500 pounds. Is this reasonable? And how often should I be servicing a watch like this? It seems like a very expensive thing to be doing!

    Thanks, Angus

Your watch needs a service, and it is not worth sending to Omega - Who may well send it to SwissTimeServices.com who are also good, but SFW will be cheaper.

£500 is totally outrageous. Search for watchmakers in the uk and reviews of their work.

Hi Angus, I just got my watch back from a service and clean by Simon Freese here in the UK. I was very impressed with his work and importantly with his customer service. Have a look at his website simonfreesewatchmakers he lists his prices £170 standard for a service - plus for additional work. Mine cost £250 which included service, restoration of the crystal and cleaning (not polishing). He specialises in vintage Omega so will treat your watch with the care it deserves. Drop him an email or call - he got back to me really quickly and gave me a quote which he confirmed once he had examined the watch. Took about 3 weeks to get the watch back. I'd use him again. I was especially impressed because I'd asked him to replace the crystal as it was scratched to hell, he knew better and cleaned / restored it so I was able to retain the original - sure it would have been easier for him to whack in a new glass.
    Hope this helps. Phil
