I'm only interested in the Universal Geneve x Hermes collaboration (circa 1938): https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/found-a-universal-geneve-chronograph-retailed-by-hermes-and
If it's a Universal Geneve x Hermes collaboration similar to @Vitezi's post, I'll strongly consider it, since' I've been on the search for a Universal for some time now.
Universal doesn't do anything good now. Not sure they even have a current catalogue. I think they were bought out some time ago by another company.
Might be some jewelry for men or a briefcase or something. Is it me, or is Hodinkee seem to be releasing things over and over too quickly... it use to be abit subtle. Now it's like a factory, churning out X colabs etc
There is a Universal watch with Hermès on the dial coming up for auction in Switzerland tomorrow, but it looks different to this advert. Any idea if it is real? Here is the link https://www.auction.fr/_fr/lot/univ...ographe-ronde-mecanique-15078126#.XBBqmvpOmf0
It can’t be briefcase or jewelery. Hermes holds uncontested leadership in leathercraft and has zero interest in entering into partnerships to boost that part of their business. However for a number of years they have been investing in upping their game in horology, so that their watches can compete in a luxury tier with their own movements. To that end they bought a significant stake (about 25 to 50% IIRC) in a Swiss movement manufacture. So the collaboration must be for a watch—where Hermes gains hipness and credentials for horology, and where Hodinkee gains further aura by being associated with a brand which projects an image of ultimate refinement and aristocracy, in a subdued and non flashy way. Ben Clymer made it clear with his strategic annoucement that they’re a marketing and sales business with a glossy magazine attached but no longer an online blog. Providing unbiased information is not something that pays, if you like Ferraris and luxury resorts at Lake Como you need to find a better line of business. At least you’ve got to give Ben Clymer credit for being clear about it.
That was my reading of a major annoucement they made a year or so ago. You’ll find links here somewhere. That’s an interesting idea.... We can place bets now as we have several guesses
Nothing says Hodinkee like a H But we know Hodinkee will be more into a style like below ( the above watch is Very similar to few other brands they have partnershiped with )
And they have us writing about it so they win! Honestly I enjoy the website as long as the content is there. I’ve stopped buying their straps though. I was very disappointed with the quality.
Mike, if there was any article of men's clothing that needs a comeback. You nailed it. ( Could see myself wearing one of these and not looking too out of place in Darwin ) ( notice the watch
at On balance when you compare cost/quality to other makers....Just don't measure up. Most recent had a 1mm difference lug width. Should have sent it back but I was busy and forgot about it.
