What does “do up” mean? You mean you got it serviced for 400£?😲

Sorry I meant got it working properly as it worked with a shake and had the case polished. Was that expensive ? Someone got it done for me
I wish you had told them not to polish the case.
i didn’t know what it was till I got it back and saw the ref no .i know more now !

In general, it is best to leave vintage watch cases unpolished regardless of the reference.

It is OK, it is already done. Just enjoy the watch 👍

Here's a shot of what the hands look like.
Mine's a U.S. Army 2179/2 but I believe the hands would be the same.

Looks great is it possible to still get the hands or is it worth leaving and does it affect the value ?. Cheers Dave

You can get them from donor watches but the cost! Maybe something else could turn up, but in the meantime.......

Out of curiosity, who did you go to for that work?

It will not be an easy task to source the hands, but not impossible. I agree the most direct but not cheapest way is to get an old donor watch with decent hands. £400 sounds a bit pricey for a service but depends on what they had to do and potential parts that were replaced. At £8 it was a cheap buy, but the costs quickly add up.
