Hi all, my name is Penelope. I have been given a watch by my grandfather, its an 18k gold Deville. It is in its original box with the papers and warranty card. It has never been worn, even though it was bought 20years ago for him so its pristine. Could someone please tell me a reputable place I could have it valued, im not sure if I actually want to sell it but id like to know what its worth. Ive been to a few places and I guess they think I am silly because im a girl and tried to tell me that they would be "doing me a service by giving me 60 quid for it." Ill try and put a pic up if it helps, sorry if this is the wrong place, it flashed up in google whilst I was searching. Thankyou so much in advance Pen x
Hi Penelope, welcome to the Forum! You might get some info here: best place to find it. In general, we like to have some extra high-res pics from the watch too: side, back and 'full-frontal'. If you have the papers, pics of those might help too. Look in the 'for sale' section of the OF too, to get an idea of value. BTW: I think this is actually the first time ever (@ moderators ??) to end a posting by a x.... Wait for the heavy guns to appear!
Hi Thanks for the replies. Yes I am in the U.K. I didn't think to go to Omega themselves, I guessed they wouldnt help as,they sell new ones, I didnt think they would be interested in an older one. Ive been searching and searching and cant find one the same any where online. My brother posted it on ebay, with a low start just to see what interest came of it but everyone seems to be out to rip one and other off these days! Ill try adding a couple more pictures. Sorry about the x its a habit of mine Thanks Pen x
Looks like an Omega Deville Prestige. Can't find much by reference number, but here's one that's similar, though in steel and not in as good condition.. http://www.chrono24.com/ca/omega/de...models=636&manufacturerIds=187&usedOrNew=used
https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/152023619384Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Up on eBay already... You'll always get more money for a working watch... So probably better to take it down and have a new battery fitted. Otherwise you're going to get lots of low ball offers.
In my opinion it should be worth quite a bit of money... Could probably fetch well over a thousand dollars...
somehow, I-always-think-it-is-nice-to-be-kind-to-people-because-they-might-even-mean-well-I-must-stop-that-and-I-hate-when-paul-calls-himself-penelope Or maybe it is just me
Serial number gives this result: WATCH DV NEW CLASSIC GENTS | 73201412 Uses a Cal. 1532 quartz movement, so this one's definitely for Dennis! Solid 18k gold case. Cheers, Al
Maybe it was a trap and we all fell for it. Maybe he/she is just advertising his/her listing ? Maybe ?
Somewhere on this Forum I read about the value of Quartz 'scrap value for the gold, minus 10% for all the work involved'.......
Yeah too bad it's quartz. Gonna less for a lot less than if it had been an automatic or manual wind...
Hi, sorry im not following, my brother is Paul. Im just looking for someway of getting a true valuation as no matter where I look I can find similar but not the same, but very wide ranging prices. I havent advertised, I did say earlier my brother was posting on ebay to see what sort of interest (if someone messaged making offers id have an idea) but that hasnt worked either. I have been to ernest jones and had a battery fitted and its all working fine now. Thanks and sorry if I have broken your rules, it was not my intention, I was just looking for some advice Thanks Pen
Value wise, you're looking at one of two things: 1 - someone who wants a solid gold cased quartz watch (Quartz isn't that popular with collectors). 2 - someone who wants it for the melt value of the gold. What eBay will give you, is market value in the truest sense: It will sell for what someone is prepared to pay for it on the day (minus 10% in eBay fees).
Yeah thanks, ebay is definitely not the way to go! Im going to try the chrono24 site that someone put here earlier I think. Failing that I may go to the Omega boutique and see what they say.
It is... If you want what someone's willing to pay. Sadly, standard Quartz watches (even in gold cases) are not generally desirable. The omega boutique will not be able to give you a value on a 20 year old watch... Not really their area of expertise. You're mostly looking at scrap value of the gold, unless someone really wants it. Chrono24 will also charge you fees.
Very similar one sold here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/111866999912Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Similar era, similar movement: https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/360973419698Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network If you search eBay for sold listings on: "Omega de Ville Quartz gold" you get quite a selection, with sold prices topping out around £650. As it's essentially new, and from the look of it a nicer piece, you might be looking more towards £900... But as I say, it's only worth what someone's willing to pay.
