Now that someone has crapped all over the thread, it doesn't look like we will ever get back to discussing tariffs and foreign trade. Might as well freeze it now. But I'll put this up first, so we know what type of person we're dealing with.
Good job Dan. I said worse on the thread, but the moderators would not allow it.

Crapped? I just replied to the drivel provided by other members.

I've historically voted republican... Bush x2, McCain, Romney...that stopped in 2016. I haven't voted in the last 3 elections.

Trump exudes the most disgusting of human tendences; he glorifies the brash, the egocentric, the sensational; he's a cynic, he's arrogant, and he's conspiratorial. He is a populist, pure and simple, and espouses no beliefs he can consider his own aside from narcissism and psychopathy. There's no serious reflection, there's no culmination of knowledge, and he's insulated by sycophants that work tirelessly to ensure the emperor does not see his 'new clothes' in the mirror.

All that to say, people defending Trump reliably point to Biden (Hunter or Joe) or Harris, or Obama, or any indiscretions, real or imagined, of past Democrat politicians. I'm not defending any or all of what previous politicians and presidents did or didn't do, but nor am able to compromise my principles and reduce my belief system to tally marks or a distorted lens in the hope of picking the least bad person. For the cynic, sure, all of politics is choosing the least bad option, but there is still a base line of decorum, respect, civility, statesmanship and intelligence requisite of the leader of what historically has been a global leader. Yes the EU and NATO have been too reliant on the US; yes China has become a problem in many economic aspects; yes the border needed some serious clamping, and yes some trade relations were not in our interest. But there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Perhaps the big brash Col. Jessep appeals to some, but in the end ordering the code red wasn't the right thing to do.

Tariffs on watches -- boo.
Obligatory watch pic -- yay!

ohhhhhh, I didn't know we needed to qualify "because".

So, starting media companies is not an acceptable method of wealth accumulation.

Your right, I am sure there was never a President that enjoyed the trapping of the Presidency. Just Donald J Trump President of the United States number 45 and 47. Anyway, this is rather enjoyable. I can see all the OF'ers typing furiously, muttering SOB SOB SOB
So you admit you are just trolling for entertainment?

I hope that it doesn't get closed, because that is exactly what he wants.

Long Island Watch Co (which I believe mainly sells new Seikos, Orient etx) posted a day or two ago that a shipment that was en route to them saw their tariffs increase from $7k to $35k.
There no real info around the cost of the order excluding tariffs, nor country of origin, but I can’t imagine that’s not having a significant impact on their gross margin and viability.

No idea. I don’t know if they’ve changed or not.

What I’m saying is it’s an example of how tariffs are having a material impact on a US business by significantly increasing their wholesale cost. The result would appear to be they either swallow it and the resulting negative impact on their gross margin or they maintain their margin and pass the increases onto the customer.

My understanding is that the price increases haven't started being passed on to consumers yet. It seems to be a mix of 1) still working through existing stock and 2) businesses trying to hold off, hoping the tariffs will be removed, 3) businesses that can't afford the fees and are just letting stock sit overseas, or trying to shift to non-US markets.

If nothing changes, then there are projections that we will be seeing more impacts on consumers in the second half of this year.

The guy 'from Maryland" was upstanding citizen till he beat his wife and transported illegals from Texas to Maryland.

Since you mentioned the business records. Trumps gets a loan from Deutsche Bank. Trump presents his appraisals of property as collateral. Deutsche Bank says no problem. Trump Organization gets loan, Trump Organization pays back loan. Everyone happy. 20 years later or whatever, schlock NY DA or whatever under the direction of Biden lackeys claims criminal fraud. Appraisals too high. Not civil case from Deutsche Bank, they are happy as clams. Well, you know the rest of the story.......................

Deutsche Bank? Happy as clams? You are extremely biased , which shows here. No US Bank would lent The Donald any money anymore, because he even bankrupted Casinos. Which is hard to achive ... Deutsche Bank paid a massive, massive Fine for Money laundering for the Russian Mafia. Nearly broke them. That was the money, Agent Orange got as a loan from Deutsche Bank, USA Branch. After he bribed the Managers in NY. ( Which all had to go later .... ) Since then, In-Trumpetence is very careful to not upset the Russians ever. And back to Tariffs: Russia and North Korea never had Tariffs slapped on. Only the Life long friends and Allies got Tariffs. We fought with the USA in every US War. We don't have a Trade imbalance with the USA. Got Tariffs anyway. That Friendship is finished. You are on your own, as you wanted. Good luck alone.

Hopefully the upside to this is that Australia can become more independent and neutral, especially in regards to Asia and China policy. Let the US have their trade wars, we don't want any part of it.

Me, I don't care because biased OF'ers would blather on till the cows come home.
I let my own eyes and Trump’s history speak for itself. And now I will blather, just for your benefit.

Here’s something that happened long before Trump was on The Apprentice or decided to become a politician.

Back in the 1980’s, Trump owned a team in the USFL, which was fairly successful playing a spring schedule until he was able to convince other owners that it was a good idea to compete directly against the NFL then sue them for anti-trust violations. Turns out that he was right and the USFL won their case after the NFL forced the TV networks to cut them off.

Only problem was that Trump and his legal team couldn’t prove damages and the USFL was awarded the princely sum of $1, which was trebled under federal anti-trust law. Which was split among the 8 owners who spent millions in legal fees, lost their teams and had nothing to show for their trust in Trump at the end.

https://www.espn.com/nfl/columns/lawsuit/1518733.html

The point of the above is that the only thing Trump cares about is “winning” and he’s willing spend your money to the last dollar to do so. Which is exactly what is happening today.

A leopard doesn’t change its spots. He’s the same guy he always was.

China and Asia are our direct Neighbours. We trade with them all the time. Australia will have a free trade agreement with the EU soon. Australia has all Minerals ( solid, liquid , gas ...)
everybody needs. Good times !
