Hey Rolex!! You may have Magnum "16750 GMT" P.I., but we have Steve "Ultraman" McGarrett!! Take that!!

After binge watching 7 seasons of The Good Wife and 9 Seasons of The Big Bang Theory I've finally arrived at the first season of the new Hawaii Five-O. As any good WIS would do I needed to Google "What watch does Steve McGarrett wear?"

Well, the current Steve McGarrett wears either a Kobold or IWC Aquatimer, but the original 1968 bad ass Steve McGarrett wore a Speedmaster Ultraman.

For 70's TV quality these are pretty good screen shots of the Ultraman. Kudos to the person that did it.

It's good to see someone other than an astronaut rocking the Speedmaster, especially this reference.

Book'em @kov!!! I thought you might enjoy this after your recent acquisitions.

I can't claim finding it originally. The two images were about 4 pages back in the search when I ran across them and I know no one here had shared them.

Also, just because I had to know. Jack Ford and both his wives are deceased along with his 13 year old step-son. He has no other family. That means it's possible that a Hawaii Five-O Steve McGarrett Ulraman is floating around in a pawn shop in Pearl City or Honolulu. Keep your eyes open.

Jesus someone had a good eye, that's an incredibly difficult detail to see but there's no doubting that's an orange hand.

A good eye indeed. What I find interesting about this image is that the orange chronograph hand looks a bit dull. I don't know exactly when this episode aired but I would think in 1968 or shortly thereafter, at the time, this was a new Speedmaster and the chronograph hand would have had a brighter looking orange color. Maybe it is the quality of the image or the harsh Hawaiian sun but the chronograph hand looks somewhat faded to me.

Yea but at the same time a lot of the orange hands of that era faded very badly on Omega divers, Flightmasters and Rolex Exp2s, and even on modern watches like @Trev's old 2599.80 his orange/red subdial hands and chrono hand tip faded to white in under a decade. There's just something about orange/red pigments that for some reason makes them fade more than other colours and more rapidly when exposed to the sun.

I love a Rolex Pepsi but unlike some who love the faded red part of the bezel, it puts me off. But a lot of the old ones have it, especially when the watch is being sold somewhere sunny.

One day I hope we get an industrial chemist as a member to explain why those red parts seem to do so consistently poorly over time under sunlight.

Even Grace Park wasn't enough to keep me watching this show. Too bad as it had a lot of potential...

Generally, I would watch grace park boil water but I agree.

Magnum had a 16750. With WIS' penchant for nicknaming watches, especially Rolex, I'm surprised it never caught on for this reference.
