Dear all, Recently I am looking for HEUER vintage models like 1163. I noticed there are at least two different versions of calibers used - cal. 11 and cal. 12. What I am curious is the major difference between these two calibers, and are they also different in the aspect of keeping value for long-term?
Just figured out I posted in a wrong place. Thanks for letting me know. I will make this post deleted.
Actually you should post this on our sister forum https://forums.calibre11.com/ You should be able to use your same name and password to sign in there.
Check Onthedash http://www.onthedash.com/movements/ There you will find a detailed overview including calibers 11 and 12
There used to be a more detailed article floating around out there I think on OnTheDash, but I can't find it. The Calibre 11i and Calibre 12 are the same movement as the 11 but with certain small improvements made after the original batch of Calibre 11 movements (which were the first automatic chronograph movements, remember) had a few small performance issues. Only the very earliest 1163, 1153 and 1133 models will have a Calibre 11 while the next batch had 11i movements. After about 1971 they switched to the Calibre 12. (Further, the Autavia GMT uses a version called the Calibre 14 / there are economy movements called the Calibre 15 which removed the hour totalizer and added a running seconds)
Very helpful information here! I really appreciate the input from all the members. That's why I love this place
