Interesting. I watched this auction and wondered the same thing. I was unaware of the "controversy." There's a 3646 that just went for 7,650 too.

I wonder if the vote on the tag website to decide the reference that gets reissued in 2017 has brought extra attention to the autavia line.

The price was low because the originality is questionable. Honest examples without the transitional case are worth about $14k...the transitional case should add more value, but this example has question marks.

The Autavia 2446C is also increasing in value rapidly. Are they worth $10K in today's market?

IIRC someone here (who will say himself if he wants to) bought one recently on Ebay for 13K. So the answer would be yes, depending on condition, originality etc.

I haven't drank the cool-aid but it seems I have a ridiculously precise memory when it comes to watches and I seem to remember a 2446C 2d execution "Jochen Rindt".

Edit, so okay, as I understand it was a 2446C 3d execution "Jochen Rindt", so a 2446C indeed, and it sold for 13500 US dollars.

Sorry but no, this is not a 2446C.
It is a 2446H...similar watch being discussed in the original post.
Big difference in price, this is the earlier screw back with completely different case...these are worth nearly double the 2446C
    "C" stands for compressor back

This is a 2446M (M for Minute bezel/H for Hour bezel- otherwise same watch) Also know as the Rindt (with Hour bezel). Long tapered lugs, smaller case, thinner bezel. This is what sold on Ebay for nearly $14k

I certainly trust your word for it as I know nothing about watches (as a pal on another forum likes to say), and even less about Heuers.
It's quite possible I got confused by discussions on another forum, where they were discussing that 13K sale and at the same time 2446Cs.

In any event, it appears 2446Cs are now worth more than 10k, as of today:

Well I can say with 100% certainty the ebay listing you linked is not a 2446C.
And one sale does not establish a value...especially an auction sale.

One of several reasons these have escalated in value is that they were produced in very small numbers. Heuer was a small company in the 60's and 70's. If you just compare the serial number ranges of a late 60's sub with a Heuer 2446, you will see what I mean...so supply and demand has driven the prices up. These early Heuer's use many of the same components that Rolex used in the same period...add the racing heritage and the many celebrities who wore these watches and you have a recipe for increasing values. Honestly I hope the 2446C moves past 10k, I have several of these I bought years ago. Heuer was the first "expensive" watch I bought when I was very young, and Ive always appreciated the brand.

Good for you for buying several 2446Cs when prices are still reasonable CajunTiger. I am also a Heuer aficionado and have several models in my collection.

Thanks for confirming, I knew it was yours but thought it more appropriate to let you comment on it if you wanted to. :)
