Last year a Heuer 2446 3rd execution "Rindt" Autavia can be had for less than $15K. With the Phillips auction last May, the same model was sold for $77K. Was it just a case of bidding hysteria that drove the price up or are watch collectors looking towards other brands like the vintage Heuers other than the usual Pateks and Rolexes?

This Heuer Rindt is being offered to me and the owner wants $30K which IMO is on the high side... but come to think of it... when compared to a UG Nina, its not to far off.

The watch on the right is the one for sale.

If the prices should double every year it would be a nice investment :D

Picture was sent by my collector friend who is selling the watch. The other two watches also belongs to him. I guess he wants to cash in knowing that he still has another one to keep. He is also an avid photographer which explains the nice picture.:)

Well respected maker and model. Great looking watch in its own right. Association with a very charismatic driver. Uncommon and bound to be a good talking point. But best reason to buy would be that you just plain love it! That being the case I'd like to think that all the grubby stuff about 'investment' value is pretty irrelevant.

The watch is very desirable and I am a fan of Heuer watches which are still quite affordable except for a few models. The 2446 SB is one that I would like to have for my collection so I am seriously considering the offer. Hopefully we can come to terms.

30k is just insane...its not worth that, nor is it in the ballpark. And to the moron who paid $77k, there is an old Polish proverb that describes him :)

    SB?

A few observations on the watch on the right. They all look great, but some questions I would ask:
1- is the lume white? If so that would be odd for a 50 year old watch. It would indicate to me that the hands were replaced, same with the dial.
2- A true "Rindt" has the minute bezel not the hour bezel. Obviously this is trivial and has no bearing on value. But a point that is regularly confused.
3- I would ask for better case photos and serial number. Also verify both reference and serial are legible on case.
    4- any movement shots?
5- 30k is very high for this reference, even today.

Thanks for the sound advise. At least I am not too keen anymore to pull the trigger on this one. Actually I am more attracted to the 1st execution with the full lume hands.

To add to @CajunTiger - $30K is high, even for what dealers are asking. I'd segment the market as follows:

    Collector: $25K
    Good: $18-20K
    Okay: $10-15K
    Poor: just run

I'll leave it up to you to decide where that example shakes out, but I think $25K is the top of the market for a private sale between collectors.

And here's my baby (excuse the scuffs on the crystal):

Great timing for a for sale ad and a good price...I just need others to ask for high prices whenever I sell one of mine...

And what about this beauty... I was counter-offered 4.2K but then it was bought for asking a few minutes later. It was the back of the lugs that put me off, but I suppose they could have been laser-welded if indeed they are damaged. No idea what to say about the bezel ::facepalm2::

Rather than add photos, I'll let people have the surprise when hey open the link.
