Help with vintage omega automatic

Hi everyone - I bought the watch on (link - https://www.ebay.com/itm/287228314466) from ebay for 640. Did I get a good deal?

I can't seem to find this exact watch or reference anywhere. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the movement too - it is a Cal 344. I don't plan to wear it that often (maybe once or twice a month) but would like to know if its a hassle to maintain.

Thank you!

In this forum, the expectation is to post photos instead of links, so that the thread can have archival value for other people in the future, when the eBay listing is gone.

I did take a look at the listing for you. The watch is a legit US-cased gold-filled bumper automatic watch, so the F-6251 is a reference number for the Star Watch Case company, not Omega. The photos are poor, but the dial appears to be original. It's a fairly small watch at 33mm. Unfortunately, the gold-filled case is worn through in spots showing the underlying base metal. For me, this is a disqualifying major condition issue, but perhaps other people feel differently. In any case, such extreme wear has a very significant impact on value. Assuming that "640" represents USD, I would say that you paid roughly 2x the fair market value for a private sale.

Bumper automatic movements represent an older technology, and parts may be harder to find if needed. But they can usually be maintained by an experienced watchmaker. The movement of your watch looks dirty to the eye, and it will likely need service in the near future, so prepare to spend at least a few hundred USD on it.

The dial looks weird to me. Print, especially "Automatic" looks sloppy. But I'm wondering what in the world are these drill/punch marks?

Edit: Oh wait, are those reflections of the strap?

The dial could go either way for me. The indices look crisp and clean, but the 'automatic' seems to have an inconsistent thickness, which concerns me.

The movement, the 344 is a solid bumper automatic. That said, that one probably should get at least evaluated, that hairspring looks goofy to me at the terminal curve. Otherwise, the movement looks clean enough, but a timegrapher would tell you at least if it needs immediate service.

As was said above: The case is in rough shape. IMO, that's about a $350 watch at max, and only if the dial is actually original. So I think you're quite a bit over value on this unfortunately. That said, a pretty cheap lesson to spend more time doing research before buying.

Dial looks OK to me, I'd say original that has aged and possibly had some cleaning done.
