Torn between a 1999 Omega Speedy Apollo moon watch (watchvaultnyc) and brand new Omega Speedy Moonwatch (from jomashop)...They are about $500 apart and one is an 18 year old limited edition watch without papers and the other one is a brand new and claiming all serial numbers and papers but grey market item...Please advice!!
    Thank you!

Decide which one you like the most and buy that one.

Depends on..one is probably better for showering and the other might be better to impress your peers. Hard choice.

oh, I personally wouldn't. It was only trying to reflect the question quality with an adequate answer, but seem to have hit an even lower bottom line :)

I'd go with the new Speedy from Jomashop. Unless I missed some detail about service history, that'd be my immediate question about an 18-year old chronograph and the possibility of additional short-term expense in the form of expensive movement service.

Thank you everyone. It is a tough decision as the service history of the 1999 Limited edition Apollo is unknown. It was acquired from Japan. Really nice looking watch with history and from a great dealer that has been fantastic in answering my questions. Also the fact that a brand new watch including the whole package (tools, straps, papers) and a 5 year warranty from jomashop for about $500 more is very appealing and tough to pass..

More importantly I would make sure the wife has received her share of $2500 (at a minimum) or will receive it in the very near future because this will help strengthen and prolong this new addiction...I agree with @uvalaw2005 to take any near future service costs into consideration, but ultimately I would pick the one that you would enjoy wearing more right now.

    Tough choice.
Great advice about adding the price of service to the older watches price. I bought an older Seamaster last month that had no service history. Even though it was running fine I had it serviced. Added hundreds to the cost of the watch.
Oddly enough, the cost of the service I just had done the exact amount I am short of picking up my Speedy :(.

I know what you mean, so I told myself I will not purchase anything else until I get my Speedy (even though anything with an orange hand or 2 is awesome )

If I were in your position, I would get the brand new one since it is only $500 difference. You get warranty and won't have to worry about servicing it for a while. Plus it is a brand new start with a brand new watch. What could be better than that.

Keep in mind the warranty is from Jomashop, not Omega. I have no experience with Jomashop, but I have seen it mentioned countless times that people do not recommend using their warranty service. Something to think about if the warranty is leaning you one way or the other.
That said, I would choose the new one.
