I bought 145.020 while in the Army in 1972 and foolishly replaced the bracelet 1170-625 with a "twist-o-flex".
Now I am 40 yrs.wiser and would love to restore to original bracelet and get serviced/new glass.
Any help for an old fool on a tight budget?
If I can't afford to fix it, I guess I'll try to sell it.
This is my first post, so pardon me if my posting techniques need improvement!

I bought my "Soccer Timer" in 72 also while in the Navy. Mine was a 145-016, the smaller version with out the outside bezel. Bands do come up on ebay now and then, but prices vary. Servicing one of these will run $250 to $400 depending on any parts needed. Best to stay with an original crystal for value.

Would you send to Omega, or is there someone good that may be less expensive?

I'd go independent, you'll spend $1,000+ on a full service and a bracelet at Omega's service center. What is your budget?

I would not send it to Omega. They would charge a minimum of $650USD. They also might change dial/hands, etc. which would hurt the value. Look for a competent watchmaker in your area and tell them you want crystal replaced with genuine Omega part and put it in good running condition. Can you post some pictures?

I would not send it to Omega, as dsio said a good independent watchmaker will be a lot less.

I'd like to be in the $300 US range, any more than that would have to be an investment in order to increase a sale price, my queen won't let me spend $1000 on a watch repair without extracting a terrible toll.

UB, what are you looking to get for it in it's current condition? What do you hope to get if you restore it?

There is a thread in the reviews section, where dsio reviewed my/now his Soccer Timer. It really comes down to condition, especially the dial as to what one is worth. I have seen them from $500 to $3000.

Ron (smithrjd) sold his here - I forget the price, but Ashley (dsio) bought it from him I think. Maybe one of them will pop in and say. Ron had his done for a pretty reasonable price but I forget who did the work. Search "soccer" and the threads about it will pop up.

EDIT: Ron just beat me to it with the information.

Well I was not sure about getting specific, but the service on mine was $375, and it did not need any parts. The prices on them are all over the board. A web search will show a bunch of different prices, all for the most part ASKING price not a sold price. I sold mine for $1500 plus the paypal fees. Considering I paid $300 or $350 for it new it was a pretty good investment. Mine was very original, and in great shape. I am glad it went to a good home.

Just to chip in on sale value: I've been following these for the last few months & in Europe the cheapest recent price I have seen for a decent one is £1400, with most sellers asking £2000 upwards. These are ambitious asking prices from dealers (not private sellers) and not a lot of buying is going on at those levels.

Also, the US / Aus markets seem to have them listed at lower prices than Europe. I hope nobody minds me saying i think the price Ashley paid Ron is a very fair and decent one for a looked after example, on a private sale. Dealer prices are a lot more...

A lot does depend on condition though & it's a bit difficult to tell how good yours is from the pics you have posted at the minute.

Here are some better pix. I guess I would hope to get $1000-1200 as-is, $1500 if I spend $300 or so on glass and service, more if I can find the original bracelet.
If I can't find it I may opt for NOS omega strap. The watch is original except for the lens which was replaced in 1980 or so. Works fine but is dirty, dial and hands all appear pristine as it's been sitting in a drawer for 30 yrs. IMGP0646.JPG IMGP0647.JPG

The dial looks to be in really good condition. The original bracelets come up occasionally on eBay & can be $200-300 with the correct end links. It's also a question of waiting it out until one comes up...

Or you can get the modern replacement bracelet, instead of the discontinued 1170 vintage one.

But I think the price isn't a lot less. Look up 1171 bracelet on ofrei.com to check it out.

UncleBuck similiar to the story on my wach. It spent about 30 years in a drawer as well. Yours looks to be very very nice. I would think that you could get your asking price without much difficulty at all. Of course the band is a detracter.
