    Hi all,

My father has 3 (vintage) omega's, two seamasters (one special edition) and one constellation.
I was asking him quite a long time if I could wear one of the watches of my grandpa, and this weekend he gave me the constellation.
Of course I'm quite excited and will let it service by Omega as (just cleaning the outside, as this is how my grandpa wore it and made it over the years)
It's cool to see that after he picked the watch up out of a box it started imidiately :)

But we dont know when he bought the watch, and from which year it is.
I just would like to know the type or serial, so I can find out more about this watch.
Of course I tried to open the case, but probably after over all these years I was unsuccessful.

I hope some of you can help me out.
    Thanks!

    - It's a steel watch with gold indicators.
    - There's only "automatic chronometer" under Omega (not 'officially certified')
    - The crown has four 'spaces'
    - The back says [Constellation] and [waterproof]
    - Could be that my grandpa changed the band with a non-Original

One of our Connie experts will be able to help I'm sure.

    Just my observations.
It's a very nice example condition wise and after a service will be a great watch to wear and remember your Grandpa by.
I would not let Omega touch the watch. A normal clean, oil and adjust service can be done by any competent watchmaker. Make sure you stipulate exactly what you want done, e.g. do not polish the case or clean the dial, but a new replacement crystal would be OK, although that one would come up with a polish.

    Good Luck with it.
    Cheers
    Jim

The watch looks to be from around 1960, based on the dial and your description. Movement is likely a cal. 551 chronometer grade movement.

Be careful if you send it to Omega. Do not allow them to touch the dial or polish the case as it is in beautiful condition. It might be better to find an independent certified watchmaker in your city and get a service quote from him.

Good luck, that's a very nice Omega.

O.k. thanks for the tip Jim.
We have some certified vintage omega watchmakers in Amsterdam.

    Thank you, gatorcpa.
Probably I will know more when a watchmaker opens the case.
Then I can search my ref in the omega vintage database.

Do you know if there are 'things' changed to the watch? (e.g. not-original Constellation)

    Hi Ronald,

That´s a nice Constellation and should scrub up well after some TLC

I have a very good watchmaker in NL, he is extremely sympathetic with vintage Omega and not too expensive either!

Send me a PM if you want his details.

Well: I'd say bring it to Wesselink in Alkmaar. They have an Omega parts account.

It looks to be a well preserved watch, the only thing I notice as not original is the crown which looks like a clover crown from a Seamaster and easily fixable.

Makes you wonder if Omega put those crowns on dome dialed Constellations since there are so many of them, eh?

They did. I've even seen some ads with the clover crown. If I wasn't visiting the Rat in Kissimmee this weekend, I'd look it up.

    Take care,

Huh, you learn something new everyday on here! Is this just the case with the 2852 and not the 2887, or both?

    Thanks all,

I've been on holiday and one will follow shortly.
I noticed that the watch is 1 - 2 minutes of in 24 hours, so I will definitely bring it to one of the specialists you guys mentioned.
