Hi, I got two bad pictures of a Speedmaster found in a drawer. The owner knows that it has been bought sometime in 1978 and it could be a 60:ties watch. My MWO tells it has a DON Bezel which dates it to 61 - 70. Hands "flat seconds" ? 1968 - 1997 ?. Caseback looks like a Speedmaster in center - Double Bevel (1959 -1967). But then I get stuck . What am I missing ? Could the enormous knowledge that resides in this forum help a less knowledgeable watch fan ? I know most of the info will come up once the watch comes to a watchmaker and the case is opened, but until then we only have these two bad pictures and curiosity . Vulffi
You can't start an ID by looking at the bezel.... Dial first. (Does it have T's?) Silver rehaut - could be replacement. Double bevel back. Larger pushers probably replaced. Could be anything as we can't see those T's. if it has then it's a 105.003 If not, it could be as far back as a serviced 2998-3. As others said. Buy it first. Then worry
You've already had the experts weigh in but my bet is a 105.002/3 with later hands. The lume loss makes it less appealing (to me), but I wouldn't give it a second thought if the price is right. The best time to buy something like this is the moment you see it.
This (educated) guessing game should be fun...hopefully others will add to the mix. I'm thinking the movement number and case back will confirm it's a 105.003.
