Hello everyone!
Thank you for accepting my membership.

I inherited two pocket watches many years ago. The watches has just been in a drawer but I now want to find out more about them. I live in Norway by the way.

The first one I think is from the 1940s (based on ref. number) and seems in OK condition.
The second one I think is from the 1930s.

I'm not sure if I want to haven them refurbished, keep them as is or sell them.

The information I am looking for is:
- Anything special about any of the watches?
- Do they have any value?
- Any good watchmakers in Norway that I can get a quote for service from?
- What are the numbers (with the equal signs) in the second watch?

Any information is appreciated!

Hey Riqi,

I don't know about market value of these watches, but I may be able to tell you a bit about the calibers.

The first watch you show (the one with the nice double railway track) has a Cal 38.5. This is a precursor of the highly successful 30T2. In the 30T2, the main spring barrel and the ratchet wheel have reversed positions compared to the 38.5. The 38.5 was in production, as far as I know, from 1932 to 1953 (not totally sure about that).

The second watch you show (the one with the missing hand), features an early 19''' caliber.

You can find examples of other pocket watches with these two calibers in John Goldberger's "Omega Watches" book on the first two pages. He starts out with those.

Hello,

Re. your questions:

- Anything special about any of the watches?
These models are not rare/special models if that is the intend of your questions.
- Do they have any value?
In good condition, such watches could go between 150-200€.
- Any good watchmakers in Norway that I can get a quote for service from?
I'm afraid I can't help you there, but I believe Google could help. Note you probably will need to find a set of hands for the second watch, as finding just the one missing matching the same patina colour etc could be tricky.
- What are the numbers (with the equal signs) in the second watch?
Not sure what you are asking, but second watch has hours numbers around the dial, and second decimal ones around the smaller circle...

Thank you both for your answers!
Regarding the numbers I see that I didn't explain very good. In the second watch there are some tiny numbers carved on the inside of the back casing with equal signs and a line under. I wondered what they can mean.

These are likely notes left from watchmakers that serviced the watch earlier. I was usual before for repairs to be recorded in this fashion ... a custom that has since died out.

Thank you for the information TDN. That is very interesting and nice to know a bit of history behind it.
