    Greetings,
I also posted this over on MWR.

Earlier this year I purchased a vintage Omega 6B/159 with the original alloy case. It began to run erratically - so I took it to my local watch guy for a service. The movement, hands, dial - all good. The case - not so much. During the cleaning process it was shown to have some wear near the bezel - small holes and some material thinning.
It was suggested that plating may be the answer - soldering and polishing down with a lacquer coat may be the answer. A restoration specialist said the "mystery metal" does not allow repairs to take.

Do any of the wise folks here have any ideas?

I scoured the posts and I see where there have been some lug repair projects - but I am approaching the possible need for a replacement case. Yes, it will get re-cased (with stainless steel this time !) 60 years after most of these were already re-cased. First recommendation was a replacement Dennison 13322.

I imagine that the replacement case will not accept the original Omega back.

Anyway - thanks for the ear. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

The original case is with the plating shop in Canada - I will hopefully get additional close-ups of the material thinning and loss. Thanks folks

Really you'd be best creating an account and posting this over on MWRforum as you'll get professional opinion and alot of those guys really know their stuff. As above though try to include a much info as possible with some pics of the problem area of the front case.

I find it difficult to understand how the case could be causing the movement to run erratically bit I'll be honest I have very little knowledge on these particular cases. Is rare for people to recommend swapping cases of military watches unless there is no other option.

    Good luck.

Tet - thanks. Just to be clear - the watch was running erratically & was serviced. The case was cleaned, (& I need some additional details on this), but the cleaning may have degraded the material. The bezel has a hole in it & probably (I will need to get photos) - the back may no longer "snap" in place due to the degradation.
