    Hello,

I am new to the forum and needed some help to figure out what I have. I bought a 50th anniversary Seamaster GMT from a reputable dealer from Italy. First off it has a Great White bezel insert, which I knew about and love the look as opposed to the “black and white” bezel. What I didn’t realize until it came today is that the date wheel is white with black numbers. No big deal, but all pictures that I can find of the black dial version GMT is they have a black wheel with white numbers.

I took the back off, its a 1128 movement which I believe is standard. It had a anti-magnetic cover over the movement, which I wasn’t expecting. Ill try to post a few pics to show the watch. No serial number on any of the lugs. Serial number on the movement is 604327XX. Did Omega use white date wheels on some of the later models? Thanks for any help.

Yes the original date wheel is black. Maybe whoever swapped the insert also swapped the date wheel for some reason. There is much less parts interchangeability between these and the Great White than people often assume due to the different dial thicknesses, but the insert (not the bezel shell) and date wheel would swap fine AFAIK. Has the caseback got the 50th anni markings? Your case looks fully brushed like the GW, the black GMT has polished lug bevels. A further mod perhaps?

If you have the 50th caseback you have a heavily modded Black GMT. If you have a 168.1620 caseback you have a GW with a swapped in black dial and possibly a bent stem as a consequence! Either way I suspect that your dealer isn’t as reputable as you think.

I think it is not only a great white bezel insert, as the edge of bezel is brushed also, so it should be a complete GW bezel.

I also believe this is a Great White that has had the black dial added to it, not a 50th with the Great White bezel. Perhaps it’s the lighting, but those look like the Great White hands to me — with black borders, not shiny rhodium-plated white gold.

No I don't think those are GW hands, it is just the light washing out on the polished std hands, the GW ones are rather different. It will be easy enough to tell from caseback what it started as (unless that has been swapped too of course). The black dial 368.1613 has the 50th inscription, the brushed GW 168.1620 has just a plain seahorse. Based on the 60m serial, I am inclined to think it is a brushed black GMT, which also explains the missing serial. The GW full bezel doesn't actually fit the 50th Anni GMT all that well apparently there do seem to be differences there too as Archer has pointed out previously. The GW came out in 2002, and is more often seen on 80m serials and upwards. Here are GW hands for comparison:

It does have the 50th anniversary caseback,368.1613. The hands are white gold, just poor lighting. Looks like I got a mixed up watch! I plan to keep it,as I like looks and function of it. Here are a few more pics, the finish is brushed on

I love this rubber strap and deployment clasp it came on. I have a 7.25 wrist and it fits fine when adjusted to its most closed position. When I open it up 3 clicks and 4 clicks on the other side, it will fit a 8 inch wrist. Only my Sinn rubber strap would be more comfortable in my opinion.

The watch is an anniversary black dialed GMT:

    Serial number: 60432754
    Article ref: 25345000
    Version of movement: 1128

It's clearly been modded by someone, with the bezel insert changed and the date indicator being the wrong colour.

Not difficult to change to the right colour at service.

    Cheers, Al
