Hello everyone! I love watches since I was young, passion shared with my grandfather, and lately been really liking to study and learning more about vintage watches. I decided this christmas to gift myself with a vintage omega ! I'm still a newbee so I'm hoping you could be kind enough to help me identify if this watch is a fake or real.

    Here what I already know/found.
The dial doesn't appear to have spelling erros and it is similar to other models no date i've seen in this era.
From the serial number seems to be a watch from 1966.
The seamaster de Ville came in 1963 to 1967 so it fits the time frame.
Now what is confusing me : the cal 630 its not from omega seamaster 600? Not from seamaster de ville? Also the back case.Have not seen that pop hippocampus in this model, i'm still waiting for the inside case picture, but what do you think?
Thanks in advance for all the help and a very very happy christmas

Cal. 630 is the smaller, equivalent caliber used in women's manual wind watches. As XJR said, you're looking at a women's SMDV rather than the men's reference which would be around 32mm dia.

Thank you! That is very useful information. Would you say, I should wait for the case back picture? It would give me the reference but do you think is that necessary to verify that is real?

I don't think that's necessary. The movement looks good, the dial untouched, and the case looks pretty unpolished. How much is the seller offering it for?

Yeah, that's a good price. Remember when buying vintage ladies watches that there isn't much competition in the market compared to men's watches, so you have more room to bargain for a lower price

as a female (I presume) and getting into watches, I think you will soon gravitate towards the full size models as that seems to be the trend for women nowadays. my wife hasn't ever owned a "lady's" size watch :)

    ::facepalm1::

How about we let people develop their own interests rather than presuming the trajectory of their interest.

Yes a lady here :) I do like some of the full size models, unfortunately my wrist is really small, around 5.6 inches, so anything bigger than 34mm feels already to big for me :(

Thank you! I'm sure janice&fred comment was made with good intentions.
The lady size it is elegant and classy. Besides, I like having a watch size not many people would use :) it's diferent and I love it.

^ my wife’s attitude is different. She does see the allure of men’s sizes. But she wont buy one for herself. She will just get (i.e., confiscate) one from my stash if she feels like wearing one.

    Sharing is caring :D
I want my own collection, but if I'm lucky enough I will also get to share (i.e., confiscate) some watches :)

I have purchased several vintags ladies Omegas for my lady- from the 18mm white gold cocktail watch with mesh bracelet she wears to formal occasions, to her 28mm 1969 Seamaster with flatlink bracelet that is a daily kock-about. They all service a purpose for different occasions. One of her favs is a 2 handed men’s 14k dress Omega that comes in around 31mm, ultra slim, uktra chic on a blue croc band and yes- a man’s watch...but too small for any “modern” man, so the sweet spot for women with a keen sense of retro style.
Under $200 is around what i pick them up for- a service and you have a spectacular watch that’s unique and unlike any made today- particularly for women.

A quick iPhone shot of her Omegas- unlike some of the teeny jewel-like frilly ladies watches of the 50’s, these I think are classics and wear very modern- but are unique compared to what’s offered today
