All, I have spent the past several months combing through sites such as these to better educate myself before purchasing a vintage omega. I have concluded that this might be a bit over my head. Sites like Ebay and Chrono24 are exhausting and make my stomach turn at the thought of possibly purchasing a fake. Getting an Omega watch has personal significance to me and the price point is not something I can be frivolous about. What I am looking for: - Around 1k USD. - 36mm and up (big wrists) - Working - Legitimate and Original As far as style I have included some links from Chrono24/Ebay. I would be happy to purchases these watches if I knew they were legitimate. * https://www.chrono24.com/omega/seamaster--id10131074.htm * https://www.chrono24.com/omega/vint...-1960-dial-369-ref-14392-1-sc--id10605604.htm * https://www.chrono24.com/omega/266-hand-wound-stainless-steel--id7452388.htm * https://www.ebay.com/itm/Omega-Seam...ch-36mm-/333111015631?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network * https://www.ebay.com/itm/EXCELLENT-...BACK-GOLD-PLATED-AUTOMATIC-WATCH/273751569512Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network So, - Are any of these legitimate? - Are there any "better" sites for novices like me that could ensure a legitimate purchase? - Are there any other Omegas being sold that better fit this mold? I imagine that if you are apart of this community then you care enough about the brand to help steer someone away from the individuals that would look to capitalize on a sale of a fraudulent product that tarnishes said brand. Thank you for your help in advance!
Try posting photos of Two at a time. We can help but 5 links. Did have a quick look at the first 2 and dial damage and price made me not look further
Take your time. Rushing resulted in me making some very bad purchases. If you haven’t already, find something modern to wear while you continue to learn and hunt.
You are better off picking something from the sale section here. I wouldn't buy any of the ones you linked here. EIther redialed, overpolished or both.
The first one I clicked on (the last eBay one) is 34mm so it doesn’t fit your 36mm and up criteria. If you’re in the U.S. I would personally stick with buying in the U.S. to avoid issues with international purchases that could sour your first watch buying experience. A lot of these could be redials so find one that you’re leaning towards and ask for opinions on that individual one. Also check out the for sale section here that gets updated daily. You’ll find a lot of options
Some really terrific advice and quality insights. Thank you. I can tell already that this is a top notch group of people and I am even more excited to join the Omega club!
So I just found the "For Sale" section. I did not realize initially that the forum had one. Am I correct to assume that any shady deals would most likely be caught by a member?
We have people who know people that have "friends" if this occurs. Welcome, ask away if you got questions on a sale item here.
Read this first before you start looking: https://omegaforums.net/threads/ple...s-rules-for-all-listings-inc-parts-wtb.54177/ I haven’t heard of anyone getting scammed on OF yet, but I’m sure someone has at some point. We are a fairly protective community and many people are not shy about calling out BS. Literally thousands upon thousands of watches have been viewed and debated on this forum and sale threads are low hanging fruit. Best of luck finding a nice first piece. Just a warning, all collections start with just one!
Any thoughts on this? https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-seamaster-2577-22-cal-354-gold-capped-w-very-clean-dial.90537/
This caliber has screws missing. Is this indicative that the caliber might not be the original for the watch?
