I have a nice Speedmaster with the serial (stated on calibre and warranty card) starting at 4832XXXX, which is according to the Hartmann table indicates year of manufacturing 1996. The watch is sold according to the papers in September 1995.

Am I interpreting the Hartmann table wrong?

Please help to clarify. Small remark, I intend to have an archive extract, but not yet in my possession.

This is strange indeed from the first appearance but a lot of strange things happened with the 48 Millions serials. To make a long story short, 48 Millions were used from 1985 up to 1996 if I am not mistaken - would have to double check but I don't have my notes or any literature with me now.

Ask @eugeneandresson about the headache he has with that decade in his https://www.ilovemyspeedmaster.com/productiondateprediction/ tool ;)

Once you have your extract, share it with Eugene to help improving his accuracy, too

Thank you, according to the production date prediction tool is the manufacturing date June 1995. It seems a bit more logical.

Omega serials are really movement serials and some movements are made in batches and used up slowly. Speedmaster serials since the 1980s seem to come in small groups and make big jumps. They were stuck at ~48m for years and then jumped to 77-78m for a further spell. There is a pattern but it isn't the same as the regular production watches.

    Hi there
If you do get an extract, please do take a pic and submit it (or PM me here). That's all that is missing for this tool -> more extract data post '77.
    Many thanks!

No concern to me. Those tables are a bit outdated. The warranty card confirms it’s ok.
