Hi all. I’m new to the watch industry as such. Thoroughly enjoying my watches now Ive had my hands on a few nice Omegas! So this watch I’ve purchased is an Omega De Ville Quartz cal 1430. It has the logo of the Sirte Oil Company on the face. The gentleman I bought it off advised me that he worked as a firefighter on the rigs in Libya. After 25 years service there Colonel Gaddaffi himself handed him and only 4 others these watches as a thank you. There’s nothing to back this story up, however I’m a firefighter now and I appreciate the history so I may just keep it. Am I right in thinking this is 9ct yellow gold!? I cannot get the back case off it is well placed so I can’t see any inscription unfortunately. And the year I guess to be around mid 70’s!? It’s been in its box for roughly 25 years so I will search around and get it serviced! Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate any feedback. Take a look see what you think.

Serial number dates to ca 1991.

Case is gold plated probably 20-40 microns (not much) with a stainless steel back, it is not solid gold of any karat.

I have the same watch. My father worked for Sirte Oil as a chemical engineer from 1981-2000, he was gifted a watch aprox every 5 years. I don't think the Gaddafi's story is true as my father never met him. I will ask my father if he has any more info regarding the watch. I think mine is from 1993, it was gifted to me on my 18th birthday. I plan to send it off to an omega repair centre to get it checked and running.

i think you should keep the watch, it looks really nice and the value is not huge.
the story is great, and its even better when you work as a firefighter
