Hi guys just wanted to ask if this is really what the seller says it is?

It's an Omega Seamaster "chubby" ref. 2846 - 8 SC cal. 500 from 1959.
please see photos below. I did some research and found that most 2846 are with cal. 501 cant seem to find a cal. 500 with this dial, I need experienced advice for this since I'm eyeing to purchase this one. it sells for 750 usd including shipping.

Hope I can get some advice.

Thank you!

I think the dial and movement are legit. Just google "omega reference 2846 caliber 500." You'll find plenty of examples with the similar dial.

USA market watches of this era had fewer jewels for tax reasons, hence the 17j 500 cal. Note the OXG import stamp. This is one of those. From those pics at least it looks ok. I agree with the 1959 date.

Serial dates the movement to 1959, however the case style is that of a watch from 1955 - early 1958 (no hippocampus). It’s possible it’s original and was a leftover part or something, but I’ve never seen a serial that late in a non-hippocampus case back so my default assumption is that they did not originally come together.

For everyone’s knowledge of 2846 references:
1955-early 1958 - no hippocampus
1958 - large hippocampus
1958-1959 (maybe ‘60?) - small hippocampus

I have a 16.51m 2846 with no Hippo. Mine is a 2846-11 with the same caseback as above. One comment about the OP watch, the hand patina is very dark, the dial indices seem either white or missing, maybe the dial lume has seen some work.

Yeah I’ve seen 1958 with no hippocampus, but not 1959 until this one. Again, we’re talking about small differences in serials so may be fine.

Forgot to mention - crown is a later replacement on the OP watch. Correct style though.
