Hi OF!

I shall try to remain short in my storytelling this time around.

An old pal, who previously sold me a beautiful 165.024, has shown me his stunning OJ 2437 in 14kt. I absolutely fell in love with this thing, but information on this beauty is hard to come by. I will share what I know:

Reference: OJ 2437
Delivered to USA in 1952
Caliber 321
Comes with EOA
Unserviced for quite some time, but runs.

He is willing to sell me the watch, however with no knowledge of the watch and its collectibility it is difficult to find a price. So my question is:

What am I looking at here in terms value, rarity and originality? I am trying to retrieve a fair price for both of us as it won’t be my last purchase from him. I suspect the hands may not be original to the watch. Furthermore, there is obvious wear in terms of missing lume and so forth.

I appreciate all your help and apologize for the pictures. The last two are taking in indoor horrible lighting.

Well, these days we have a great tool to find a watch using a photo. In Google Chrome browser that is called "Search image with Google". You right-click on the image and it shows you similar results. Based on that...

It would help if you could provide much more detailed photos. Then it would be possible to analyze if the dial has original printing.
But, design-wise your watch seems to be alright - there are similar Omegas out there.

Difficult to say if the hands are correct. They are in terms of the era. I can't see if the crown has Omega logo, but the design is correct.

Some samples I have found where you can see which hands were used.

Different case, but similar dial.

Thanks for your thorough input! I realize there are many similar watches, but finding identical ones is what proves difficult. You’d expect finding a bunch with the reference at hand…

Anyway, any suggestions in terms of a fair price?

You are right to suspect non-original hands. H & M hands definitely aren't original (most probably service) and from much later. Typically you should see leaf or triangle lumed hands on this 2439 (not 2437). Please share better pics of the watch face - but I do suspect the dial may have been cleaned if not outright reprinted. Again, need better pics to verify this.

With these holding this particular example back, it doesn't exactly fall in the highly collectible bucket. The 2439 is a fairly uncommon reference but you still do see 1-2 examples a year. They should in all honestly get more love, but quality/grade trumps everything here - especially for this reference, since those folded lugs can very easily show rounded edges if polished.

I blew up the first pic of the dial, and unfortunately it shows enough to say it's reprinted.
