Hey guys, i just purchased this Connie on ebay and wanted to confirm with the forum members if there any obvious red flags on this one which i might have missed? I think the case looks good, correct crown and plexi. There are some spots on the dial and hands. But i somehow really liked the beige color of the dial. I hope it doesnt look too disterbing in person. The font of the text looks also correct to me. The Serial Number fits year 1959 for the caliber 551. Edit: (The Serial Number fits year 1961 for the caliber 551.) I have a 14 days free return policy. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help! P.S. the photos are from the dealer.
Thats what i though too, the color is slightly different, which i dont mind if done properly. But since there is no wear on the rotor, i guess its either was exchanged recently before the sale, or was done properly
This is something i can not confirm since i didnt see the photo of the caseback. The seller wrote its a "14381-11" from 1961. Which is wrong (the year) according to the Serial Number. But i guess this is the Model Number he/she took from the caseback, and didnt research enough for the correct year. But i might be mistaken.
Also looks fine to me, but I'd take a close look at where the line intersects the star on the dial. it should be precise. otherwise, enjoy!
Are you sure about that? I have seen plenty tiny inprecisions on Omegas before, where things were not perfectly aligned. I heared that the line should go through the top of left peak of M and O. Which in this case is also slightly sketchy. But i am not sure. For example my previous Connie had Omega logo not centered, but the M and O looked good. i guess there might be some minor variations, but i may be wrong. Edit: Compared to this one:
I think the bottom one is correct; I don't think Omega made them so out of alignment, but then again, I could be wrong. I was actually referring to where the line bisects the star at the bottom of the dial. Should hit the star point exactly. Many refinished dials don't quite get it right...
The colour of the rotor is different than the rest of the movement. Often the case when pieces got replaced.
I hear, but only slightly. It looks to be the correct style. Often when these are replaced they are replaced with the wrong one entirely. It certainly wouldn't deter me from buying the watch at the right price. The text is good.
As far as i know both are correct, as i said, there are just minor imprecisions, which are absolutely normal. Its just the matter of how much you zoom in Yeah i guess i paid a bit much for this one, but i was observing prices for a while now, and it seems they got in general very high on these, especially in Europe. Of course there is a possibility to wait for years for a bargain to come, but then again, there is a chance that prices get even worse so i took a chance. lets see how it looks in person.. i hope the specks dont bother me too much.. Edit: Thanks everybody for the input!!
I think both dials are fine. The pictures are taken at different angles and through crystals that might be scratched. Even so, there are usually slight variations with the dials. See this below from @Tony C. https://omegaforums.net/threads/an-...rly-ug-three-hander.86515/page-5#post-1124289 gatorcpa
Looks very correct for a ref 14381. And serial number 1817xxx fits right in with production year 1961 afaik. I have the same reference with almost the same serial number which was sold in 1962 according to the certificate.
Oh, i must have misread the serial number, i thought it was 1617xxx which would also be correct for year 1959, i will find out once it arrives Edit: i just double checked the serial number, i think you are right! its 1817xxx and it does fit the description of the dealer! my bad!
Congrats on the new watch! I saw this ad as well and while I was very tempted, the curvature of the lugs (upper right) in particular made me wonder a bit. It appeared more of a straight line rather than a smooth curve associated with this lug style. It could be the angle of the shot, the lens, etc that could have caused this illusion. I started to compare to other pix but my attention got turned elsewhere.
Funny, at first i thought there was a problem with the bottom right lug (back side), until i got the shot of the movement per PM. I realy hope your "illusion" is really just an illusion Edit: i was observing this one also for a few days, thinking that i dont want another impulse buy. But after a few days it was still too tempting.
As far as i can judge the medallion and the condition of the caseback in general is not too bad. I think they only placed the NATO strap for some photos
