    Hi

I joined OF to start my learning curve on vintage Speedmaster's before buying, but these two have just popped up, a little early, in a possible trade for some military watches I was selling. The moon watch was offered first, but then a 321 came into the equation ..

I've tried to compare with recent sold listings on eBay, but am finding it a little complexing picking over all the slight differences that account for such price swings

Pictures below- They're from a established Trader (although not a OF member) who usually offers 14 day return & 6 month warranty, so little to worry about

    The 145.022 ST 71 cal.861 (in-house service) with 1171/633 bracelet, with a trade value of around £4k
The 145.012 SP-67 cal.321 (unsure of service) with bracelet, with a trade value of around £8k
Both fully original, un-polished or re-lumed

I'm leaning towards the 145.022 at present, but should I reach for the 321? do the values seem fair? any advise is much appreciated speedmaster trade1.jpg speedmaster trade2.jpg

    Hi,

Personally, I'd go after the 321, but this one looks a bit rough. From what I can see, the lume is actually gone on almost all the plots and what you're seeing is the white paint. Case looks overpolished. And what's up with the lower endlink? is it upside down? does it actually fit?

in both cases, the trade value seems high for what they are.

any pics of the watches you're trading?

    Thanks for the reply

The 321 only came into his shop yesterday, the first thing I asked if it was polished but apparently no, hopefully it would be serviced & bracelet fixed before trade

Here's a few more pictures of the 145.022 (no other pics of the 321)

Trade for the 145.022 is these 5 + 2 more, original condition running, unserviced, some with slight problems

That's a fairly good-looking -71 but with an 1171 bracelet instead of a 1039, I'd say it's not worth more than US $3500. Trade value of £4k is way too high

I would agree on the -71. I was outbid yesterday (by 0 feedback member) and it ultimately ended up at ~$3250.

yes, agree with abrod and Taddy... £4000 is too much for that -71.

I would politely suggest that you may want to get oriented on the speedies before jumping into a trade. http://www.speedmaster101.com is your friend. It includes a price chart that can help too.

Yeah, was going to say the same thing. If you haven't looked at the price chart on speedmaster101.com, please do so. 4K pounds seems about 1K too high. 8K on the other I think is high too, but that is a market I don't really play in.

Also the DO90 Bezel on the 321 appears to be in really good shape from the one picture you posted, and may be approaching 3K USD on it's own these days. The dial though doesn't appear to be attractive in a way that would support such a high price otherwise, at least that is my guess.

Additionally K, both bracelets look pretty knackered.
As far as I know, only STS can fix the flat link ones, the 1171 will be scrap I think.

Edit, as far as trade value, I suppose you have to consider what the smiths cost you and how many if them you have (or had), you can probably afford to be generous.

Thanks for the bargaining chips, it looks like I have more tied up in my watches than the Speedmaster's are worth, will try & get a lot better deal & let you know how I get on, didn't want to rush in to buying but think I need to get in to the loop

    Regards
