A friend of mine wants to sell this watch. Sorry I have absolutely no knowledge about the different Speedmaster models... hope you don´t mind me asking this questions: I guess it is a recent "reedition"? I would be extremely thankful if members of OF could let me know: - if it looks ok? - realistic value on used watch market? - reference number? Thank you very much for any help!
Caseback is not original to the watch (or, if the caseback is, then it’s the movement not original) -> Speedies with display-casebacks have movements that are finished to look good, Ie rhodium or gold plating etc. this is a regular cal321 movement, with a column wheel, so it’s from the 60s. Dial is not original to this watch (it’s got an applied metal logo, no professional designation, but in a professional case) and it looks to have been redialled (the ‘Omega Speedmaster’ font is simply wrong and jarring to the eyes). Case is polished. This looks like a put-together and the value of this is parts value (excluding the dial). I unfortunately do not know the market value of acase (polished reduces the value), pushers, crown, movement (321 a bit more than 861 or 1861), caseback or handset, but with enough digging around you will be able to determine it.
I am confused. Isn’t that a 321, it has a column wheel after all? Dial deffo looks wrong for any model I have seen. Looks like a Franken made up of some desirable and rather less desirable parts, wonder if it is a repainted 321 dial or a 861 with bodged feet or a dial sticker. Or an out and out fake dial. I would say it is a very Limited Edition indeed. A one off!
