Dear OF members, After much research and learning from the experts here, I have managed to shortlist this watch below. I haven't bid for it yet, but with an intention to do so. Would like to get opinion whether it's worth it? The current bid is close to 800USD. It is 1 day to closing. Ref. 168.005 Cal 564 Based in what i see, all the parts seems to be original. As attached are some of the photos. Thank you.
Look at this one. https://omegaforums.net/threads/196...e-w-dog-leg-lugs-serviced.80284/#post-1026421
This is my least favorite seller on eBay. They shill bid their watches to the dollar they hope to get and you think that people are actually interested in said watch. They also redial tons of their watches. With these less-than-admirable practices in mind I wouldn't go near them.
Something weird going on with the medallion, looks like it's been prised off another watch and stuck on this one. Or is that just the crap photos? How odd that the dial photo is the worst of the lot. If a professional seller doesn't take good photos of the most crucial element of a watch, you have to wonder if there's a particular reason for that.
I don't have a better pic of the dial. Yes, just saw the post, it's a very nice watch, but slightly above my budget Noted with thanks. Will walk away from it. Thanks for pointing that out. Learned something new again Thanks to all the generous input from all OF members here
I would recommend saving up a bit more. for $350 more than the one you posted, you're getting a significantly better watch.
I wouldn't buy anything from that seller. Moreover, the OP is looking at an auction, so $800 is not the final price. I'm not sure he can buy a decent dog-leg Constellation with his budget. He might consider increasing his budget, or looking for other references.
Will do, but I am sure the watch will be snatched up by then. Will keep on saving, learning and searching! Tq
Well you should spend a little more and get a nice example instead of skimping on the pennies and get a sub par or worse, a franken or refurbished one. That is a common issue with new collectors. Continue to save up and in the mean time, do your research.
I appreciate that people are tied to particular budgets but that said, the watch on sale here is a nice one and well worth the money (and I have no connection with it or the seller). Good dial, good case, clean movement and serviced. All vintage watches need servicing before wear, 99% of ebay offerings are unserviced and tt's highly unlikely a competent service will cost less than $200. Of course, you could wear an unserviced vintage watch if you wanted to grind down the dried-up mechanism but otherwise you need to factor in the cost. I realise this watch is a dome dial not a pie pan which is perhaps what you want, but you can forget about getting a good pie pan that's ready to wear for $800. It's just not going to happen.
