This is my first post, but been lurking for some time. I've been looking to buy a 1960s seamaster 120, and finally think it's time. I'm found this one and would appreciate advise on the 1969 below. It's being sold buy a dealer as all original except for a replaced glass. The case obviously has been polished, does this detract from the value? Any advise would be much appreciated.
The polishing of the case does affect the value negatively. It also appears the hour indices may have been relumed. A typical indicator of this is a color difference between the lume in the hands and the lume on the indices. Wait for more learned opinions on whether the dial is original. How much is the seller asking?.
This is the 37mm size. Looks good to me. The bezel is in fantastic condition which is quite rare for these. Edit: The case has been polished beyond my liking. Still might be worth it depending on the price.
Not sure that's entirely accurate. About a year ago I attempted to get to the bottom of this question here https://omegaforums.net/threads/somewhat-esotéric-question-about-lume.34873/ There would appear to be no definitive answer.
@Mouse_at_Large above is correct. There is often a disparity between hand and marker lume, and this is true across many brands and model lines.
Thanks for the reply. The dealer has it up for €1600. There is also a piece of the lume missing from the hour hand, is that an issue? I have also noticed that the omega logo is sometimes bright/polished, where as this one(and others is dull. Did this depend on the year.
Hence, the use of "may" in my response. Do you have an opinion about the lume in this case?. 1600 Euro =$1723 US is very high. I have seen better 120's sell on the forum for around $1300 if I am not mistaken.
In terms of color, I have no worries about that example. As I'm not really focussed on the model, I don't have an opinion on prices.
