Hi All! New member but have been selling watches and buying the occasional vintage piece for the past 13 years. I recently acquired this 1970 Omega Speedmaster and would like to replace the strap with something more suitable in stainless steel. Would prefer original but understandably, would be keen on a well constructed substitute with the appropriate end pieces to "hug" the casing correctly. Would like it to look as period correct as possible. Any advice? sources? links? Don't trust eBay and would appreciate some expert opinions.
This table shows you the correct bracelets by year: https://issuu.com/mstanga/docs/tab_bracciali_omega_ultima.xls Complete bracelets do come up periodically in the parts section of the for sale forums but a good 1039 will run you into the four figures. An 1171 is cheaper and also correct. Ebay does throw up some correct bracelets but there's also a mountain of fakes on there. You might also consider a good handmade strap for it, I've often used steveostraps.com but there are plenty of makers out there to suit a wide variety of pockets. Good luck and enjoy your Speedy.
Hi Castrophia, you're looking for straps that have 'curved ends' that will 'hug' the case. I'm sure the more knowledgeable members will chime in with an Omega reference, however if you want something nice from Hirsch, here ya are! http://www.hirschstraps.com/collections/curved-ended-hirsch-straps Also, 'rallye' straps look really cool with Speedies. Wear in good health!
