Hello all. I have a 1976 Speedmaster Professional that I received as a high school graduation gift from my parents. It’s all original and in very good condition. I’ve had it serviced regularly over its 42 years and it’s going in for a full service in about two weeks. Calibre 861 movement and 1171 bracelet, I believe. Alas, the original box, papers, etc. are long gone. Anyone have any idea what this model retailed for in 1976 and what it’s worth today? Thanks in advance for your help.

Can you attach some pictures? You can check chrono24 to get an impression of the high estimates and compare the state of your watch with the offers over there. Are you planning on selling it?

I’ll post some photos when I have a chance. On the fence about selling it. Don’t wear it much anymore as my daily watch is an SMPc/2500D, but my Speedy has a lot of sentimental value with both of my parents gone now.

With all due respect, and without wanting to sound judgmental - if it's of such sentimental value, *don't* sell it.

Geez, lighten up. I’m a new member and was just looking for some opinions from members who are more knowledgeable about value than I am.

    Value depends on the condition.

www.speedmaster101.com is a great place to start. It sort of depends on what may or may not have been replaced when you've had it serviced. Originality trumps everything when it comes to parts being replaced. So if the hands were swapped for luminova hands, or if the bezel was swapped to a later service bezel, etc. all of that reduces the value.

To my knowledge, I believe that it’s all original, but not sure how I would confirm that at this point, but thanks for the advice.,

    Welcome to the forum.

As above Speedmaster101.com will give you an idea of price and model ref (likely 145.022-71 or -74 if bought in '76.

Post some pictures here and we'll be able to tell you what's original or what's been swapped out over the years.

If you mean a complete “intervention” service through an Omega boutique, no. I’ve had it serviced in the past a few times by AD’s, but to my knowledge those services were limited to cleaning, lubricating and adjusting the movement and polishing scratches out of the hesalite crystal. I know that the dial, hands, crystal, chronograph buttons and bracelet/clasp are original. I don’t believe that any parts of the movement have ever been replaced. Still runs fine and I go through the ritual of winding it every morning even when I don’t wear it. I was about to take it in to the Omega boutique in NYC for a complete service. Mistake?

Yes, that's a mistake. Members here will be able to point you in the direction of a good watchmaker in your area. Don't let Omega touch it. If it is original as you say then make sure it stays that way. Photos on here are the only way to help really.

You will kick yourself in the ass later if you sell it. Especially if it was really a gift from your parents.
