Not an expert, just a looky loo, but I like it and would purchase it if the price were right.

That's a caliber 89 which is probably from the late 60's or early 70's. In stainless steel, I would think anything under $1600 is acceptable (but I may be out of touch with IWC since I haven't bought or sold one in a couple years).

I think I see this one on ebay. Looks to be very clean. 35mm case. I've seen well worn stainless examples go for $800 to $900 and I would expect a perfect example to go for $1500 to $1600.

I don't think there is any question about the authenticity. Remember to check the seller. Looks to be a dealer with 100% feedback but only 41 of them which gives me cause for concern as he has 40 watches listed now. All of his sales are private so you can't see what they were. All his other listings are full retail.
There are only a few watches that I pay full retail. If this is the watch you have always wanted, offer him 20% or 30% less to start the negotiation process ;)

Great movement, most probably a redial or a restored dial which is OK if you don't mind it. The watch even as redial should be right around 1400 to 1700 which is a wide range but bare in mind the seller is most likely over pricing to cover fees etc. If it's over 1700 it's over priced imo, unless you don't mind paying for it. I'm not sure about the applied IWC. Most watches I've seen of this era and caliber don't have it but I don't have an encyclopedic or even a vast knowledge so do your research.

    Beautiful watch all things considered

Just did some digging and it looks like the apllied IWC was indeed introduced right on the late sixties early seventies so that could be right. Still ses restored to me. Not a deal breaker though

And lastly as I'm looking into it the applied where mostly on Date models, except for these exceptions here, the marker style ( double line) also seem more appropriate with Date models. Again I think it may be part of the restauration. I insist I am not making 100% claim but worth checking deeper.

Thus is he closest I've found.

I just doubt its model/type/series does not belong to the IWC's ingenieurs mentioned above, you enclosed pictures.

    Am I right?

That's the sense I get, but I would seek further advice from an iwc forum.

I've had 5 iwc, gge 2 cal 89 I had I sold. Both where niece prices, and both radials or restauration. I didn't have the sense then to ask for advice. Both where good pieces though and I actually made a profit with them. Thus is a similar case but as you say not quite matching up

IWC runs their own "collectors forum". Nothing like this one in terms of activity or aid, but still worth a shot:
    http://www.iwc.com/forum/en/

I would say based on the style, and applied logo, the watch in question should date to mid 1970s (if it is not a franken).

You need to register, and then you will be admitted after a few hours. No big deal, but not instant access.

so I should wait for an expert's opinion rather than buying now?

    thanks
