Hi anc sorry for my english!!
I'd like your opinion and advice. As a watch enthusiast, I've always tried to diversify my purchases, not focusing solely on particularly trendy brands. I've always been in love with this watch, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Gran Sport, in the Chrono and DualFace versions, with a black dial.
In your illustrious opinion, what are its strengths and weaknesses?
It's certainly a model I really like, but I'd also like to know the following:
- Can it be wet or used underwater?
I know that waterproofing isn't always recommended for chronographs with push-buttons, even when advertised.
How do JLCs perform?
- Is the movement particularly delicate?
I know that JLCs are very expensive to service, so might dual-function movements be inadvisable for daily use?
- JLC has a market that's not speculative or highly collectible.
In your opinion, regardless of whether someone likes a model and can afford it, it's fair to buy it.
Are they worth the money? Is JLC a brand I can consider Haute Horlogerie, or am I wrong?

Thanks again for the advice.

I've attached some photos of the models I'm particularly drawn to.

JLC is a fine company with a long history of excellence and at their top end certainly are certainly HH. Their reputation was built on their excellent movements so no worries there. I own two bought new, a Grand Reverso Duo and a Rose Gold Master Calendar Triple Date. Love em both. Watches are NOT an investment with very rare exceptions. Personally I’d not recommend a Chronograph for serious swimming, though these seem well designed. . Regarding service costs, they are a fact of life with complex watches regardless of brand . JLC has a good network. If you buy one preowned you will want to have it serviced before venturing into water. If you like it, buy it.

You've been a great help. I love wearing watches. I have a job where I have to wash my hands often, and I often have to wash my watch too. Do you think just washing a JLC Gran Sport Chrono with a moderate spray would be a problem?

No. Handwashing, bedside tables, door frames are known watch foes though. The latter two yes but not handwashing for this model.

The JLC Gran' Sport Reversos with the screw down crown are water resistant, 5 atm (50 meters), so IF the seals are good you should be able to wear it splashing around in a pool, or washing your hands, or running water over it if it needs cleaning. Personally I don't dunk these sorts of watches in water, there are better watches if you are going to be in the water a lot. My wife has a time only Gran' Sport from 2001, automatic movement. Had it overhauled two years ago at JLC Service Center in Ft. Worth, TX, $650 + tax for the service which included case and deployant buckle polishing. Over 20+ years it had picked up a lot of scratches, my wife wanted it cleaned up, JLC did a good job in that regard. Working well since that time.
