Help me learn about Ranchero

I am new to this forum, and very new to vintage Omegas (and other vintage watches). Like most people I was drawn to the appeal of the Ranchero. I saw the following one on Ebay, and was a bidder up to about $500. After that, I just didn't want to risk anymore without knowing if it is real or not. It just sold for $750. (USD).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OMEGA-RANCH...TCH-REF-2990-1-/191603735777?autorefresh=true

The movement, serial number, case look correct for a Ranchero (from my little research). As the seller indicated, I know the hands are incorrect. The dial looks like it had been re-done, but I am not sure. I don't think the crown is correct either, but am not sure.

Did someone get a steal on this watch? Or am I missing something and should be glad I stayed away. Are re-production hands available, if it only needed new hands? Or are original hands (NOS?) available somewhere? Approximate cost for the correct hands?

I know this is probably one of the most common "faked" watches, so just trying to learn as much as I can before I make a mistake.

They aren't faked so much as there are a bunch of frankens out there. It is difficult to find unmolested examples. The desirable broad arrow hour hand is obsolete so the spares go for $350.

Redial, etc.

Also, we'd be more inclined to help GoodAndy. 🙄

Thank you all. I was pretty sure it was a redial, as the lume didn't look right.

It's baked. Looks authentic from here. Needs some help. Have you found this for sale?

No it's belongs to my father in law. what do you mean it needs some help? Clean and polish or something? I didn't wanted to touch it in case it's worth a lot of money and by cleaning it I would damage it 😀

It is a very collectible watch. Looks to be untouched. Hands might be re-lumed. The dial has seen quite a bit of sunshine. You can search this site and find some very nice examples and get an idea of the value. If I were you, I would take it to a qualified watchmaker and have him glance it over, swap out or polish the crystal, purchase a strap from him then wear it with pride.

All from the same seller. And we are not even sure for which watch they are, since they don't give exact measurements. And they just put up another set: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=400949091268

There are a couple of good Ranchero on the bay right now but they are both for crazy unrealistic money.

Thanks for all your help. I don't think anyone ever done anything to the watch and from what I know it's still in original condition. Will have a look around for someone to have it cleaned and polished. Have a good evening

Too much material is lost when you polish. It will decrease value.
