My birthday is coming back and my dad wants to buy me one of these. Mind you he is a big Bulova fan as his dad handed him down a old Bulova.
    Which should I pick ?

Personally I wouldn’t pick the one that looks like an imitation speedmaster.

But it’s down to your preference, not mine.

Congrats first of all. It's tough to say which is the best for you but the one that is more pleasing to me is the red/blue version. The bracelet looks very comfy, the dial, case and hands are sporty and quirky without being kitsch.

The lower one has to much speedy vibes going on for me.

Try and get to a retail outlet where you can see and touch both. Choose whatever you put down, and then pick back up (more than once is OK).

As to "imitation Speedmaster", aside from a chronograph dial (similar to dozens of other of the period), I can't see any Speedmaster DNA in there at all.

And that would be my choice today. Probably next week I'd go for the Stars and Stripes.

I would have chosen the Moonwatch.

The thick case and bezel and chronograph dial reminds me of a mark II.

The design could predate the MKII. they are certainly contemporaries. The bulova design is challenging to date

Anyway of the 2, I'd go with the black dial.

Well the Bulova was made originally the same time as the omega. And was worn on the moon too

I didn’t have a thought process behind which watch came first or which was worn on the moon etc. It was simply a case of I saw the design and thought, ‘that reminds me of a speedmaster’ and so that is what I would think if I saw it on someone’s wrist.

The first watch stands out more and is my preference, but as I said, it is down to what you like more and which you see yourself wearing more. I feel the first is more casual than the second.

I would say the first of the two if you plan on getting a Speedmaster in the future.

Black if you intend to wear it often.

Try them on and see which makes you smile, as others have said......

Don’t know if it will help but, if you have to choose between the two and you look at them but there is nothing that makes one better than the other then think about anything that you do not like about each and see if that colours you choice.

    Choose and enjoy.

I have a vintage Speedmaster, but I would also get the Bulova Moonwatch (cool history as others have said). Although the two are similar, there is enough difference and sometimes you want to wear quartz watch the isn't worth thousands of dollars. I have tried on the Bulova Moonwatch with a bracelet. It is a big watch, but somehow does not seem out of place on my smallish wrist (7 inch). It is very comfortable, and like a Speedy could be worn in most any situation casual to formal. I also like the red white and blue, but it is more casual. I would also wonder if I would still like it 10 years from now.

    Flip a coin.

If you’re disappointed with the result, pick the other one.

I would also choose the first one … perfect finish to red t-shirt, blue jeans and white chucks ;) ... and all the best for your birthday!
