Help me buy my first luxury watch, a Seamaster

I've never bought anything above a G-Shock, and while it is god tier I think I'm ready to finally get the Seamaster I've always wanted, a 210.30.42.20.03.001, and besides that I'm lost. MSRP is $5,200 and that's at places like Jared, but when I Googled it came back with one at Jomashop for $4,200. That's a hell of a dip, and I'm paranoid about getting a fake. Any advice for a newbie?

Wait for it, and keep trawling the Sales section here. Simple.

If you want full training wheels, and also you want to buy a brand new watch from a brick-and-mortar, then only buy from an official Omega “Authorized Dealer” (jewelry/watch shop that is authorized to sell various brands, including Omega), or an “Omega Boutique” (an Omega-only shop). Listings for both can be found on Omega’s website.

Depending on the desirability/scarcity of the exact model you seek, it is possible to purchase certain watches in particular from an AD or OB for below MSRP. That requires negotiation and savvy.

Mind you, many ADs or OBs will sell over the phone, and ship a watch.

If instead you are open to a lightly used watch bought from an individual, then as mentioned above - this version of training wheels - is to buy only from this forum.

The particular model you seek does appear to deprecate upon purchase, and so can be found lightly used at a significant discount to MSRP, and with remaining factory coverage.

On the other hand, sometimes you just have to have that new car smell.

I'm only interested in a brand new one
So, like this one?

That is a brand new one for sale in our Watches For Sale section. If you are patient, and frequent this section, you’ll often find a brand new SM300 for sale. Joma won’t sell you a fake as but the reason it’s cheap is it comes with Joma’s warranty instead of Omegas. The watch I linked above comes with Omegas warranty.

And to show what I mean about Joma not including manufacture warranty (meaning no “papers”)

They have the same warranty period though, no? So the watch comes with everything except the red warranty card?

The point that Scarecrow Boat is making is that if service is required on a watch purchased from Jomashop during the warranty period, it will be under Jomashop's warranty period, whatever that period may be (NOT Omega's five year warranty period), and the repair work will be performed by Jomashop (NOT Omega). The Omega watches sold by Jomashop are authentic, new Omega models sold at a discount, but there is no Omega warranty. The bottom line is that the watch may never require warranty service, but if it does, you'll be dealing with Jomashop and not Omega.

So will it come new in the box and all the cards, just not the warranty card? The Omega warranty would be nice, but I'm not sure it's $1,000 nice. And this is a watch I will never sell

you could email/call a number of ADs and ask for the joma price …

Yes but one is the original warranty from Omega and the other is a gray dealership's (Jomashop) In addition if you where ever going to sell the watch the re-sale price will be lower without the Omega warranty and papers.

Both watches are authentic though. Jomashop is a "legitimate" gray dealer

Yeah I'm going to try that, I wasn't aware you could haggle ADS. The only one anywhere near me is at a Jared, I'm going to check that out this weekend. Even if it's say a 15% discount instead of Jomas 20% I would jump on that

Think of it this way. The watch has a master chronometer co-axial movement. Servicing this type of movement requires specialized training. Unless you inquire, you have no way of knowing whether Jomashop employs repair technicians who have the proper traiing and whether they have access to genuine Omega parts. If not, having them service your Omega could be a dicey proposition if warranty service becomes necessary. Now, if you save $1,500 over what you would pay an AD for the same watch, you always have the option of sending the watch to Omega for repair if needed. Omega will charge you their going rate for the service since the watch won't be under Omega's warranty, but the service charges will certainly be less than the $1,500 that you saved on the purchase. And, as I stated previously, the watch may never need warranty service.

I recently bought a Seamaster from an AD and received the same discount you'll see at Jomashop. It will be a full set with warranty card and peace of mind that if anything does go wrong that Omega will be making the repairs. DM me for their contact info.

[…]what look like may be an AD.
Also, the store you linked to on C24 is not an AD.

As Gbesq described, you’ll save money going through a grey dealer that cannot provide warranty card but that savings might not be worth it, especially if you can get the watch from a grey dealer than can provide card or get the watch at a discount from Omega. You might not need warranty work done. But if you do, I personally wouldn’t trust sending this watch to Joma or watchshopping.

FWIW, I too recently bought this same watch (SMP, blue on bracelet) from an AD—over the phone—and paid basically the Joma price. Discounts are available if you ask and persist. These aren’t like Rolex sports models; many ADs have a big back-stock and are eager to move them.

As for never planning to sell it: that’s what everyone starts out saying—before they get hooked. The sales section here is full of listings for watches people once declared they’d never sell. 😀

Lol this is a watch I've coveted since I was 13 years old and first saw it on Pierce Brosnan's wrist in GoldenEye. This one isn't going anywhere
