Buying a 321 for $3000 requires luck knowledge and patience.

its what many of us here try to do, and sometimes we win, sometimes we don't.......

you would be better off avoiding eBay and keeping an eye on these fora, especially the watch sales.

321's are great watches, but a cheap one might make you hate them forever.

and frankly they always need a $600 service. Unless the seller has paperwork from a proper workshop. Not the heelbar key cutter watchmaker in the mall!

Probably not. A genuine 321 in the UK would cost at least that much in pounds sterling if you were lucky. You maybe able to pick up a later model 861 which are still very nice. Good luck

This won´t be an easy task for you. It take a LOT of homework to be able to buy a Speedy 321 as per your definition. And definitely not at USD 3000. You must calculate USD 4000, to be realistic, if you want a good specimen.

I suggest you buy your husband a far lot cheaper, but good, vintage dresswatch for his birthday, and let him by himself search for the far more harder to get Speedy 321

Or, if you are able to stretch your budget to nearer $4.5k, keep an eye on the sales forum here as nice 321's do come up on a fairly regular basis. Like others have said though, if he has his heart set on a 321 it may well be worth him finding it himself. The chase is half the fun!

You will be joining me and countless others in a search for an original cal. 321 Speedmaster in the $3k range. And we're talking watch head only! Original bracelets typically bump the price above $4k.
Sorry to say, but if your husband specified a cal. 321, a newer cal. 861 (or 1861) will not be satisfactory for reasons that will gently lull you to sleep. The 861/1861 is a great watch with a look very faithful to the original, but it's just not the same.
I wish you luck! We're happy to help where we can.

It may or may not be wrong, there are enough of the later style chrono second hands on 145.012-67s to consider it almost the start of the transition into the 145.022-68 which did have the later style hand, that said the whole handset on that watch do look a bit too white, maybe a full new set?

    Between the 145.012-67 c. 321 and 145.022-68 c. 861 there is the 145.012-68 c. 321.

For the chrono24 145.012-67 Speedy, it is a patina difference between the hands and the stick hands lume and dial. The hands look new to my eye (not relumed, but new).
The stick hands show some wear though and they show some age compared to the hour/minute and sweep.
I don't see the movement (you may ask a photo) but the dial, case, bezel pushers and crown are in good condition. The price is decent (you may contact seller and see if you can negotiate).
Considering the price and the seller's location, i would recommend.

A 321 Speedmaster would be a wonderful gift for every collector.
