I am trying to track down a watch repairer by the name of Sonny Dewan who I believe is located somewhere in Miami (possibly Miami Beach Watch Repair Inc business name) but can't find any website for that name and his Face Book page is rarely if ever visited by him.

Anyone in OF heard of Sonny or know how to contact him?

This is an example of his work, but quite an old article. http://users.tpg.com.au/mondodec//Seamaster_Conserve.pdf

as a backup option, any suggestions for a magician specialising in dial magic. Need someone to do a serious dial conservation not restoration on arguably the ugliest Connie dial in the world...

    Thanks in advance
    J

Sonny is a very busy man. Hope you can find him, and good luck Miami is a big place.

Imo, the dial looks beautiful as it is. It has aged to the point it has a marbling effect...seeing how people pay a premium for tropical dials, you may regret losing this "marbling" effect some years down the road

One thing i don't understand is...what do you hope to achieve with conservation vs restoration? Conservation stops further deterioration?

Why not send the aesthetic Connie to Omega HQ in Bienne for a refurbishing treatment ?
Omega could offer you advices & various options to the extend on how far you want the Connie refurbished with NOS parts.

Botched restoration of a painting at a local church in Spain made headlines across the world & it became an unlikely tourist attraction[IMG]

First, I doubt that dial can be fixed. The paint is damaged. Second, Sonny really only did work on gold dials - no paint, just ink and topcoat to restore. Third, good luck getting in touch with him. A few years ago I tried leaving messages at various numbers.

@gatorcpa - Want to add anything?

Yes, was wondering just how deep the damage and discolouration went. I could send it to Omega HQ as MF17 says but then it would end up as a full restoration I guess. I am not wedded to any pathway. Right now I would just like to explore the options including keeping it as it is. The cal. 551 is running superbly and there is no water damage inside the case other than what is on the the dial - I am assuming it is water damage btw.

Wow, that was a great read, kept me entertained on my commute back. Thanks for sharing Definitely go for the conservation, do let me see the results, as well as how much it cost if possible ;)

That's not botched - that's an homage to Paul Cezanne. :p

    ...... without a pipe or cigarette. ;)

Nothing to add. The dial is toast. Can't be conserved only redone.

IMO, best option would be to find a better dial on a non-running watch. Easier said than done, I'm afraid.

I'm not the one paying homage to anyone. I'm making fun of the botched restoration job, saying it looks like an abstract painting by Cezanne.

Cropping the avatar photo will blur the image & the pooch will appear out of focus. Snap some macro photographs of the puppy Sir
Wait [emoji113] the forum mascot wants its photo taken[emoji14] [IMG]

That botched restoration is a blessing in disguise for that church in Spain & daily donations from the tourists ( who came to laugh & mock the painting ).are making the church very wealthy indeed so much so that the 80 yr old woman painter who messed it up in the first place is now demanding Royalty !

That second pic of Moomoo on the mat, with a bit of cropping, is THE avatar photo imo. No dial restoration needed on moomoo.
