Hi Guys I've searched all over the www and the Omega vintage section of their website and can find no mention of my old Omega. The serial number is 10474546 which dates it to 1946 and the number inside the case back is 2324/3 The shading on the face is a shadow. Hope someone can help, thanks
https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-other-omega-mi-2324/ You may notice a slight difference. That reference should have a 30 SC T2 with sweep seconds, not sub. Perhaps you have the wrong caseback on it.
Just another thing, this was my dad's watch he had it from new in 1946, it came to me in 1982 when dad died. Since then it hasn't been tampered with except for a new crown fitted locally end of last year.
Based on the photos I would say that it's been worked on more than once. One case screw is wrong, some of the screw heads have chew marks from the use of incorrect size screwdrivers, the barrel bridge screws appear to be different and the balance cock / screw show signs of being off more than once. It doesn't really matter though, it's not in "collectable" condition so perfection isn't important. What is important is that it's a memory of your Dad, and a very nice one at that. If it hasn't had a proper service recently, you should attend to that, and possibly get a better crown for it.
and it has a wrong balance it should have a cut Earnshaw compensation balance but it shows a later mono-metallic Glucydur balance
Thanks guys, I am constantly amazed by the depth of knowledge on this forum. I'm a complete novice in the world of watches, ask me about Hofner Verithin guitars...... When was the later balance introduced?
I wondered about the colour of the balance cock, but didn't pick the wheel. Back to the dunce corner for me.
