My grandmother recently found her brothers old watch who used to live in San Francisco. I noticed I said omega on the front and is a wind up with sweeping movement. It’s not stamped Omega but engraved on the back. I think I might be a fake. Can anyone help?
Update. She has had it 30 odd years and he wore it in the 60s early 70s, so possibly bought in the early 60s?
I think I am also, but wasn’t sure since It hasn’t been stamped. I didn’t realise these watches had been so havily faked even back then!
Unfortunately, watches have been faked for over a hundred years. Many of the Omega fakes blossomed after WW2 when the popularity of the brand and the quality attached to the name attracted those who sought a quick dollar by "rebranding" other lesser watches. The 1950s/1960s were two great decades for "vintage" fakes".
It's not even a good copy of a contemporary Omega watch. Just some generic ladies watch stamped with some other organisations' trade marks.
