Hi all,

Recently inherited a 1970's (I believe) omega watch. Struggling to find any concrete identification on a make or model so need some help. it's not a speedmaster or geneve I don't think.

From what I know, it appears to be a circa 1970's Omega automatic quick date. Someone said a caliber 563 with 17 jewels and a potential serial number of 307 XXXX. From what I can tell, the case backing is aftermarket (I believe).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

1st up that's no Speedmaster, the markings on the case back look like it might possibly be a retirement or long service presentation and the logo on the case back is probably that of the company that presented it. Though the date 1-16-56 if it is a date makes no sense of that senario give the likely age of the watch. Maybe a 21st birthday gift or a wedding anniversary watch but then why the logo?
In order the know exactly what you have the caseback needs to removed and there will be markings on both the inside of the caseback and of course on the movement.
You'll probably need to take it to a watchmaker to do this, while it's there get him/her to take pix of the movement and the inside of the caseback.
Go to a real watchmaker not the bloke who operates out of a booth at the mall who also cuts keys, mends shoes, sells phone covers, vapes and ciggies.
Post those pix here and some experts will tell you what you have.
Does it run? It probably needs a service.
I looks like a nice old thing to me, mind you I'm no expert.

If its a Cal 563 then it should be an Omega Geneve Reference 166.070 automatic with a presentation case-back, the date of 56 is probably when whoever it was joined the company who was being gifted it for leaving.

Need the back off to check reference number and movement serial number. As dsio mentioned. Has to be a date person started as the dial is a 60s design and not mid 50s.

I’m curious. Do you know the person on the back? You don’t mention as any relative
