Hi. Does any enthusiast out there know anything about the following Omega?
serial number on back of case is - 9959273 (think this means it's dated pre 1943?)
Also says on back casing -" Modele+Depose, Waterproof, Omega Swiss
There are 7 digits on the watch mechanism - 9343721
Ref no. inside case back is - 53
    There are 15 jewels
    Face colour is - cream
    Case is - stainless steel
It has a trident hour hand, sweep second hand.

Only additional info was on the arm where the bracelet fits. A tiny which said R9643H. Cleaners ID number perhaps?

Apologies if I've missed anything important but any help would be much appreciated.

What is the diameter of the watch in millimeters not including the crown?

Looks like a French market piece. "Fabrique de Suisse" on the dial is a tip-off. Dial is one of the nicer ones I've seen on this style. Not sure of the case reference, as there were several similar ones. Trident hands on vintage Omegas are always very collectible.

Put a new crystal on it (doesn't need to be Omega signed...the originals weren't), get the movement cleaned and by all means, get rid of that lug-scraping bracelet.

You will then have a very desirable collectors' watch.

Will get that info to you. Watch is at my sisters house at the moment so have asked her to find out.

Thanks SO much. Do you have any recommendations as to where this could be taken/posted with a view to selling? Total novice with antiques and such like so any advice would be welcome.

OK. I have had a couple of offers to buy through already. Not knowing it's worth I would not know a good price from a bad. I guess I need a valuation? Are certificates of valuations useful in vintage watch circles? Where would you recommend I should go?

Generally not. The only thing I can suggest it to scour the internet for other watches like it and see what they sold for. Some of the members here might respond through private mail, but I suspect some of them have also made offers.

Unfortunately, you're not going to find much information, since this is a relatively hard to find watch.
