    Hey guys,

I just noticed this unpleasant discoloring on my gold plated Polerouter that wasn't there the last time I wore it a few weeks ago (I don't think it was even there a few hours ago when I first put it on!)

Does anyone know what could have caused this? And what could be done? :(

Judging from the pattern and it appears to be flaking off my guess was a drop of a dark liquid with particulates in it like coffee got splashed on it when you were not wearing it and dried. Put a little water on a paper towel it should come right off. I can't think of a chemical reaction that would make gold that color.

Interesting. It's isn't pure gold so it can react to different agents and tarnish. Perhaps it came into contact with something silver, or was in some dish containing coins? Even some aggressive cleaning agents can cause discoloration. Keep us posted.

Perhaps a bluing, heat effect from a wild party?

Only half-kidding, it does look like heat.

Hey @Foo2rama, thanks for the input. Unfortunately, damp paper towel didn't work.

Hi @trama , I've never put it anywhere near coins or anything silver.

You can polish it off but then you'll have shiny where the black spot was. Low speed dremel with polishing rouge. While you're at it, touch that brass crown with the wheel ;-)

Maybe it's the pirate's black spot?

It looks hear related to me. The way it formed in an almost perfect arc as the heat began to spread through the metal. Did you wear it while cooking? Possibly hot water, of grease?

It does look like it's a burn. But I didn't / never wear it near anything hot. When I first noticed it though yesterday, I was on my office desk where there was coffee. But it's not as if I rubbed the watch against it.
